Tata Motors is all set to launch the second-gen Safari SUV in India; the new Safari will sit at the top of the brand’s SUV range. We tell you more about it.

  • Safari to come with Harrier’s 2.0-liter diesel engine with two gearbox options
  • Will be sold in two seating layouts
  • Expected to come with a long list of features

New 2021 Tata Safari: What to expect?

The new Safari, as reported by us earlier, will sit above the Harrier and this means, the SUV, apart from a lot of similarities it shares, will have a few unique bits too. First up, Tata will market the new Safari SUV with not one but two seating configurations; sources tell us that the model will have a six and a seven-seat layout.  This means, the Safari will also come with a bench-seat setup for the second row in some variants.  Additionally, the SUV will have subtle chrome bits on the grille to make it look differentfrom its five-seat sibling, the Harrier.

As far as variants go, expect Tata to launch the Safari in three or four variants initially and as seen on the Harrier, expect more variants to be added / removed according to customer demand down the line.   Under the hood, the Safari will come with a 170hp 2.0-liter diesel engine mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.

New 2021 Tata Safari: Feature list

We are told that higher variants of the Safari will be well-equipped and its feature list will mimic that of the top-spec Harrier. Additionally, the Safari will also come with an electronic parking brake and in-demand features like a panoramic sunroof.

New 2021 Tata Safari: Competition check

The new Tata Safari will face strong competition from the likes of the recently updated MG Hector Plus and the upcoming second-gen Mahindra XUV500. Additionally, Hyundai is readying a three-row Creta as well that will see a market introduction sometime later this year.
