Volvo C40 Recharge

Volvo has revealed the new C40, its second electric car and the first electric-only model series in its line-up.

It will arrive in the UK in 2022, sold exclusively online.

The new model is based on the existing XC40 and features a coupe-like roofline, with a raked rear end, but retains a raised SUV driving position.

It was revealed with a 408PS twin electric motor setup and 78kWh battery, designated P8, the same as the XC40 Recharge and Polestar 2.

Lower powered versions are likely to be introduced during the car’s life.

The C40’s reveal follows Volvo’s commitment to only sell electric cars by 2030.

“The C40 Recharge represents the future of Volvo and shows where we are going,” said Henrik Green, chief technology officer at Volvo Cars. “It is fully electric, offered online only with a convenient care package and will be available for quick delivery. Getting a new Volvo was never this attractive.”

Like the XC40 Recharge, the C40 Recharge comes with Volvo’s latest infotainment system, jointly developed with Google and based on the Android operating system. It provides Google apps and services, such as Google Maps, Google Assistant and the Google Play Store.

Unlimited data enables constant connectivity and the C40 Recharge will receive software updates over the air.

The C40 can be fast charged to 80% in 40 minutes and offers an anticipated range of around 261 miles when fully charged.

Pricing and specification details will be announced in due course.
