Triumph Speed 400 price, new cafe racer India launch details

Just like the larger Thruxton 1200, this smaller one has proper cafe racer styling and ergos.

Just a month after the latest small-capacity Bajaj-built Triumph was launched in India in the form of the Scrambler 400 X, a new model on the same platform has been spied. The bike in question bears clear resemblance to the larger Thruxton 1200 while the underpinnings seem to be shared with the smaller Speed 400.

Everything from the wheels, bar-end mirrors, round LED headlight and teardrop shaped fuel tank is carried over unchanged from the Speed 400 onto this bike. And we can specifically point out that this test mule is based on the Speed due to the upswept exhaust muffler and 17-inch front wheel.

Where it differs from the Speed is in the presence of a cafe racer front cowl, more aggressively set footpegs, a minimalist rear LED taillamp and indicators that have been moved downward on the USD fork to accommodate the fairing.

While the single-piece seat appears to be the same unit as the Speed 400, the pillion grab rail seems to have more of a square appearance that the rounded one on the roadster. This test mule is seen rolling on Pirelli Rosso 3 rubber, the same compound as the Speed 400 ships with internationally, but in India it will probably use the same locally-sourced MRF or Apollo rubber.

Expect the Thruxton 400’s underpinnings and peak output figures to be in the same ballpark as the Speed 400, when it does make its public debut. Triumph might play around with the final drive gearing to suit the character of this bike but expect it to feel quite similar to the Speed 400.
