Triumph Scrambler 400 X price, features, styling

Scrambler 400 X is Rs 30,000 more expensive than Speed 400; shares same engine and frame.

Triumph has launched the Scrambler 400 X at Rs 2,62,996 (ex-showroom, Delhi), and that makes it Rs 30,000 dearer than its roadster sibling, the Speed 400.

  1. Has a 19-inch front wheel, more ground clearance
  2. 150mm of suspension travel at both ends
  3. Off-road footpegs with removable rubber inserts, sump guard

The Triumph Scrambler 400 X has the same liquid-cooled, 398cc, single-cylinder engine making 40hp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm as the Speed 400. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox along with a slip and assist clutch. While the main frame is the same as the Speed 400, the Scrambler 400 X has taller suspension units and a 19-inch front wheel. At 185kg, it is also 9kg heavier than the Speed.

As a result of the taller suspension units, seat height has risen to a commanding 835mm and ground clearance to an imposing 195mm. Further solidifying its off-road focus are the footpegs with removable rubber inserts, a sump guard and headlight grille as standard.

Tyre sizes have also changed with a 100/80-19 hoop up front and a 140/80-17 unit at the back. While the rear brake is the same, the front brake on the Scrambler is a larger 320mm unit. The features on the Scrambler 400 X stay the same as the Speed 400 but here the rear ABS can be turned off.

The only other liquid-cooled scrambler in this price ballpark is the Yezdi Scrambler (Rs 2.10 lakh – Rs 2.12 lakh) although it is much more affordable and not as powerful or feature-rich as the Triumph. The closest rival in terms of performance and capability is the (also manufactured by Bajaj) KTM 390 Adventure X, and at Rs 2.81 lakh (ex-showroom, India), it is Rs 18,000 more expensive than the Scrambler 400 X.

We will be riding the Scrambler 400 X soon so watch this space for our reviews.
