The entry-level G trim of the Hycross misses out on some features, but gets an automatic gearbox as standard and a decent features list.
Toyota launched the all-new Innova Hycross late last year and deliveries commenced from January this year. The brand initially focused on building top and mid-spec variants of the hybrid trims. Now, Toyota has also started delivering the lower variants of the Innova Hycross, including the base-spec Hycross G trim. In this story, we take a close look at the entry-level Innova Hycross G and also discuss the vehicle’s powertrain options and pricing.
Toyota Innova Hycross G: exterior
First up, the vehicle we see here is the entry-level G (non-hybrid) 8-seater finished in ‘Super White’ colour. While bookings for this trim aren’t considerably high, sources tell us that along with a handful of fleet operators, a decent chunk of private buyers are also opting for the entry-level G trim.
On the outside, the entry-level Innova Hycross G comes with zero chrome, excluding the logo and badging. Most of the plastic trims, including the grille and grille surrounds are finished in matte black. The MPV does not get alloy wheels, but comes with 16-inch steel wheels. It, however, does get LED headlamps.
Toyota Innova Hycross G: interior and features
The G trim of the Innova Hycross gets an all-black interior – there is no brushed aluminum or woodgrain trim seen on the higher trims, and the dashboard looks completely mono tone and basic.
Being an entry-level trim, the Innova Hycross G misses out on a lot of features. Standard equipment jinclude keyless entry with push button engine start/stop, electronic parking brake and an automatic gearbox.
This variant misses out on power folding wing mirrors, but it does get power adjust for the wing mirrors. It also missed out on a touchscreen infotainment system and steering mounted audio controls. Interestingly, the Innova Hycross G’s steering wheel does have buttons, but they are calibrated only for checking the multi-info display in the instrument cluster.
The Innova Hycross G also gets tilt and telescopic steering wheel, traction control, USB type-C slots for the first and second rows and an armrest for the second row’s captain chairs.
Toyota Innova Hycross G: powertrain
As reported earlier, the Innova Hycross does not get a diesel engine or a manual gearbox. Customers looking for this combination have to look at the reintroduced Innova Crysta, which now gets only a diesel-manual combination.
Coming back to the Innova Hycross G, this trim comes with a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine good for 173hp mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. While this variant is a good choice for a private buyer looking for a three-row MPV with an automatic gearbox, a naturally aspirated petrol automatic powertrain may not be a good choice for fleet operators, thanks to the high fuel costs. Toyota does claim an ARAI fuel economy figure of 16kpl, although real life fuel efficiency numbers are expected to be lower.
Toyota Innova Hycross pricing and delivery details
Prices for the Innova Hycross start at Rs 18.55 lakh for the entry-level G variant. The top-spec Innova Hycross with the NA engine costs Rs 19.45 lakh, while the hybrid line-up ranges between Rs 24.76 lakh-29.72 lakh for the top-spec variant. (ex-showroom, India).
As far as deliveries are concerned, dealer sources tell us that the lower variants have a waiting period of around six months, and the higher variants, especially the ones with hybrid tech, are being delivered in around four months, in most cities.
