Toyota Innova Hycross to get SUV-like looks
The SUV craze in India has been on the rise for the past few years, and with the new Innova, Toyota seems to be joining the trend. The first official teaser of the Innova Hycross confirms that the carmaker is looking to woo not just those looking to buy a three-row MPV but also SUV buyers.
Leaked images have confirmed that the new Innova Hycross will have a more upright SUV-like nose, with its upright and butch-looking grille, and an in-your-face design resembling the Corolla Cross SUV that’s sold abroad. While the new Hycross is expected to look unmistakably like an Innova when viewed from the side, Toyota is likely to offer some body cladding and slightly wider fenders, similar to the Veloz (also sold overseas), to make the model look more SUV.
Toyota Innova Hycross: new platform
As we’ve reported before, the new Innova Hycross is a grounds-up new vehicle. The FWD TNGA modular monocoque platform has replaced the ladder-frame RWD IMV architecture, which is a big departure from the outgoing model. This should help the new Innova Hycross with more cabin room and also give it a more car-like feel.
Toyota Innova Hycross: many new features expected
The new Innova Hycross will also get features that have not been seen on the previous Innovas. Toyota has confirmed that higher models will get a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, a large touchscreen system, fully digital instrument cluster and leather seats with an ottoman function for the second row. Dedicated AC vents for all three rows and even cooled seats, at least for the front row, are expected.
Toyota Innova Hycross: two powertrains, no diesel
Toyota has increased its focus on full hybrid cars in India. The Hyryder was the brand’s first strong hybrid product for the masses and now the Innova Hycross will follow suit. A 2.0-litre strong hybrid powertrain will be available on the new Innova Hycross, along with a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol. There will be no diesel engine option on the upcoming Innova Hycross.
Toyota Innova Hycross: global debut, India unveiling timeline
The Hycross will debut in Indonesia as the Innova Zenix on November 21. Its India unveiling will follow on November 25. In a first, Maruti Suzuki will also have a version of the Toyota Innova Hycross which will make its public debut sometime in mid-2023.
