The Altroz Racer gets the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol from the Nexon.

At Auto Expo 2023, Tata Motors showcased the Altroz Racer, the sportiest version of the Altroz hatchback yet. The Altroz Racer also gets a new 10.25-inch touchscreen, a new digital instrument cluster and a sunroof.

  1. Altroz Racer is currently being evaluated for launch
  2. It gets a sunroof with voice assist, ventilated seats
  3. Engine will be mated to 6-speed manual gearbox

Tata Altroz Racer gets Nexon’s turbo-petrol engine

One of the highlights of the Altroz Racer is the powertrain. It still gets the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine, as the Altroz iTurbo, but it now makes 120hp and 170Nm of torque. In comparison, the iTurbo makes 110hp and 140Nm of torque. With this power upgrade, the Altroz Racer makes as much power as the Hyundai i20 N Line, which produces 120hp and 172Nm of torque.

Interestingly, the Altroz Racer will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, instead of the 5-speed manual that is found in the iTurbo. However, there is no confirmation if it will get the 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Tata Altroz Racer: exterior changes

The Altroz Racer gets the same exterior styling as the regular Altroz. What sets it apart is the electrically-adjustable sunroof with voice assist which is a first for any Altroz variant. It also gets a blacked-out roof and bonnet with twin white racing stripes on both as well as Racer badges on the front fenders. At the back, the Altroz also gets a more pronounced rear spoiler along with a shark fin antenna.

Up front, where the standard Altroz gets a chrome bar spanning the width, the Altroz Racer gets an all-black treatment. Even the headlights get a blacked-out treatment. While the design of the alloy wheels is the same as the standard Altroz, the Racer has an all-black finish.

Tata Altroz Racer: interior and features

As mentioned, the Altroz Racer gets a brand-new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment with new software and wireless charging. Furthermore, it also gets a new 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster as well as ventilated front seats, six airbags and an air purifier as standard. The Altroz Racer also gets new all-black upholstery with red contrast stitching as well as red and white strips along with Racer embossing on the head restraints.

Tata Altroz Racer: rivals and launch timeline

Tata has not mentioned the launch timeline for the Altroz Racer as it was only on display at the Auto Expo 2023. However, Tata may just give it the new 1.2-litre direct-injection engine and it may come only at a later stage. If the Altroz Racer is launched, it will rival the Hyundai i20 N Line, which is priced between Rs 9.99 lakh-Rs 12.10 lakh (ex-showroom).
