Tata Altroz CNG price, launch date, powertrain, mileage details

The Altroz iCNG will get the new dual-cylinder CNG set-up that will aid in preserving boot space.

Tata Motors has released a teaser that it will be launching the Altroz CNG on April 19. First showcased alongside the CNG version of the Punch at the Auto Expo 2023, the Altroz will be the third model in the brand’s portfolio after the Tiago and Tigor to be equipped with a factory fitted CNG kit.

  1. To be powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine
  2. Gets the new twin-cylinder CNG set-up
  3. Rivals the Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza CNG

Tata Altroz CNG powertrain, fuel economy

The CNG version of the Altroz is powered by the same 1.2-litre, three cylinder engine that puts out 86hp and 113Nm of torque in petrol mode, which drops to 77hp and 97Nm in CNG mode. This unit is likely to be offered with a sole 5-speed manual geabox. Similar to the Tiago and Tigor CNG, the Altroz can also start directly in CNG mode, a feature none of its rivals offer. The Tiago and Tigor CNG offer a claimed fuel economy of 26.49km/kg, and we expect that the Altroz will offer a similar figure as well.

Tata Altroz CNG design, variants, features

The Altroz CNG will not get any changes to its exterior, save for the addition of the ‘iCNG’ badge on the tailgate. The most unique aspect of the premium hatchback though is the new dual-cylinder set-up in the boot. Unlike the large 60-litre tank that plagues boot space in multiple CNG models, the new twin cylinders, which are 30 litres each, have been positioned under the boot floor to free up storage space.

Similar to the Tiago and Tigor CNG, it can be expected that the Altroz will be offered in XM, XZ and the top-spec XZ+ trims and come equipped with features like a 7.0-inch touchscreen, a digital driver’s display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a voice-activated sunroof, 16-inch alloy wheels, an engine start/stop button, automatic climate control, height adjustable driver’s seat, leatherette seats, rear AC vents and a front centre armrest.

Tata Altroz CNG expected price, rivals

The Altroz CNG is expected to cost Rs 90,000 more than its petrol manual counterpart, which currently starts at Rs 6.45 lakh and tops out at Rs 9.10 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The Altroz is the third premium hatchback to get a CNG powertrain option, and will rival the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza CNG upon launch.
