Next-gen Volkswagen Tiguan: design updates, exterior, interior and more details

The new Tiguan, expected to be unveiled in late 2023, will have a longer wheelbase than the current model.

A major overhaul for the Volkswagen Tiguan SUV is underway, ahead of its unveiling sometime next year. The new Tiguan’s styling will have design cues that will be more in line with newer VW models globally, including the new Polo and Golf, among others.

  • Styling to draw influences from VW ID Buzz
  • Likely to continue with current powertrain options

Testing for the new Tiguan has begun and sources tell us that the new SUV will get a completely new fascia with sharper styling and a restyled bumper, among other changes. The grille will be much larger than the outgoing model, while the rear end will largely resemble the existing Tiguan, save for the bulkier bodywork.

The model’s visual refresh comes after Volkswagen design chief Jozef Kaban claimed the firm would move towards a friendlier design direction, producing more vehicles that “smile”. The Volkswagen ID Buzz marked the beginning of the German carmaker’s new design era in this respect.

What can also be confirmed is that the new Tiguan will have a longer wheelbase than the outgoing model, which would result in better cabin space. It will still slot in below the bigger Tiguan Allspace.

As far as powertrains go, the Tiguan will likely retain the same set of engines as the current model, which includes a selection of petrol, plug-in hybrid and diesel, depending on the market. For India, the SUV comes with a 2.0-litre TSI petrol good for 190hp.
