New Scorpio partially revealed; launch in the coming months

New Scorpio’s final design has been partially revealed, ahead of its price announcement that’s slated to take place in the coming months.

The new Mahindra Scorpio is in its final phase of testing and the brand has already started preparing marketing activities for its launch. A picture leaked on the internet has partially revealed the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio’s final design. The image seems to have been captured during a commercial shoot for the new Scorpio.

New Mahindra Scorpio: what does the new image reveal?

The new image confirms the upcoming Scorpio’s final design cues, which have been vaguely seen earlier, thanks to the barrage of spy photos floating around on the internet since more than a year.

The Scorpio, for the first time, gets an all-new design, making this a full model change and not a major update. It continues with the traditional upright styling cues and is more butch-looking than the outgoing SUV. Up front, the new Scorpio gets sharp-looking headlamps with subtle chrome treatment. Expect higher variants to get an LED projector set-up, while lower trims to come with Halogens. The new-look multi-slat Mahindra grille is smaller than the XUV700’s and, again, gets chrome bits to add to its premium look. Its bumper is tall and gets C-shaped surrounds for its fog lamp housings, which also double up as LED daytime running lamps. The fog lamps are expected to be LED units as well in the higher variants. And while the SUV’s boxy and upright silhouette may be familiar, all body panels are completely new, according to our sources. In fact, the new SUV is also notably larger than the outgoing model. Spy photos reveal a butch and muscular stance, strong character lines, kink in the window line, side-hinged rear door and vertical tail-lamps.

New Mahindra Scorpio: to come with fresh interiors as well

The interior of the new Scorpio is also expected to be a lot more premium and feature better ergonomics for all passengers. It will come with forward facing seats for all rows, as reported by us before.

Spy photos have revealed that the new Scorpio’s dashboard layout resembles that of the now-discontinued Toyota Land Cruiser LC 200. Taking centre stage is a large infotainment touchscreen that is flanked by AC vents on both sides, and below it are the controls for the infotainment and HVAC systems. Further down in the centre console, and just ahead of the gear lever, are the USB ports and power outlet. There will be a digital instrument cluster (in some variants) and rear AC vents with separate blower controls on the new Scorpio.

New Mahindra Scorpio: underpinnings, powertrain options

Mahindra has underpinned the new Scorpio with an updated ladder frame chassis that’s also present on the new Thar. They are expected to share powertrains too, with the new Scorpio coming with 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine options. Mahindra is expected to offer both, manual and automatic gearboxes on both engines, with four-wheel drive likely to be reserved for the top-spec variants.

New Mahindra Scorpio: expected launch, price and rivals

With marketing activities and commercial shoots underway, expect Mahindra to start teasing the new Scorpio in the coming months. Its market launch, meanwhile, is expected to take place by mid-2022.
