From the new BMW M2 to the Huracan Sterrato, here are all the new performance cars launching in 2023.

While the performance car segment isn’t large in our market, it does provide the most thrilling and exciting models. Come 2023, we are going to see a slew of new performance cars make it to our market, including the likes of the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato, Maserati MC20, Ferrari Purosangue and the Skoda Octavia iV RS. Here, we have listed all the hot, new cars and SUVs that are arriving in India over the course of next year.

BMW M2

The second-generation BMW M2 is the final pure-combustion offering from the M division. The new M2 gets a squared-off stance with a frameless kidney grille, boot lid spoiler, low-slung rear diffuser and quad exit exhausts. Optional extras include a carbon-fibre roof and an M Race Track package with carbon-fibre bucket seats and an increased top speed of 285kph.

Inside, the M2 gets a dual-screen layout comprising a 12.3-inch digital cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen.

Under the hood, it is powered by the ‘B58’ 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine that is also found in the M3 and M4. With 460hp and 550Nm powering the rear wheels, it is nearly as quick as the M4. It will also get a 6-speed manual gearbox as an option.

Coming: Late 2023
Engines: 3.0-litre petrol
Expected Price: Rs 1 crore

Ferrari Purosangue

Ferrari’s first SUV is the Italian marque’s first ‘four-door, four-seat model’. The Purosangue has a sportscar-like front-mid engine position and rear-mounted gearbox. It gets a split headlamp set-up with air vents to help aid aerodynamics on the bonnet edges – like those seen on other Ferrari models.

The Purosangue gets rear-hinged rear doors that open up to 73 degrees. The four-seater gets two individual rear seats with a sporty position. Space in the back isn’t generous, but the optional electrochromic glass roof lends an airy vibe. The dashboard has a twin-pod layout with the passenger getting a dedicated display. From the driver’s seat, there is a good view of the road ahead, but the seating position won’t make the driver tower over others on the road.

Under the hood, the Ferrari Purosangue is powered by a 6.5-litre V12 engine producing 725hp and 716Nm mated to a 2-speed front power transmission unit and an 8-speed rear-set dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The high demand for the Purosangue has prompted Ferrari to stop taking orders for it temporarily. Some customers are experiencing a wait time of up to two years. Ferrari is among the last sportscar marques to offer a luxury SUV.

Coming: Late 2023
Engines: 6.5-litre petrol
Expected Price: Rs 6.5 crore-7 crore

Ferrari Roma Spider

A replacement for the Portofino M as Ferrari’s entry-level model, the Roma Spider will look similar to the Roma, but with a different roofline and rear end. Mechanically, both will be similar. The performance of the Spider is said to be slightly slower than that of the coupe model because of its higher weight owing to the folding roof mechanism and additional chassis bracing.

Coming: Late 2023
Engines: 3.9-litre petrol
Expected Price: Rs 3.8 crore-4 crore

Ferrari 296 GTS

The drop-top version of the 296 GTB will be very similar to the hard-top version with the only difference being subtle styling changes due to the retractable roof.

Powered by the same 830hp, 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 and e-motor combo as the 296 GTB, it can achieve a 0-100 time of 2.9sec and tops out at over 330kph, matching the GTB.

Coming: Mid 2023
Engines: 3.0-litre petrol
Expected Price Rs 5.5 crore-Rs 6 crore

New Lamborghini Aventador

Lamborghini’s flagship supercar will continue drawing the bulk of its power from a large-capacity V12 engine, supplemented by electric motors in a set-up similar to the Sian FKP 37 hypercar.

The Aventador replacement will use a supercapacitor instead of a lithium-ion battery, which will charge thrice as fast as a similar-capacity lithium-ion battery.

Heavily camouflaged spy shots suggest that the new model might feature thin headlights, similar to the ones on the Huracán, along with huge air intakes in the front bumper. In profile, the low-slung supercar can be seen with gaping air vents and at the rear, it may get top-mounted quad exhausts.

Coming: Late 2023
Engines: TBA
Expected Price: Rs 6.5 crore

Mercedes-AMG A 45 S facelift

The A 45 S will carry on with the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 421hp, achieving 0-100kph in 3.9 seconds. Cosmetically, the A 45 S gets slightly restyled head and tail-lamps as well as Mercedes’ new steering wheel. Other additions inside include the new MBUX software for the touchscreen.

The current A-class hatchback has only been available as a full-blown AMG model and is the most expensive and powerful hatchback on sale in India. Since the pre-facelift is available here in limited numbers and as a CBU, the facelift will be no different.

Coming: Mid 2023
Engines: 2.0-litre petrol
Expected Price Rs 85 lakh-90 lakh

Lamborghini Urus S

The facelift of the Urus spawned two models, with both sharing many mechanical components except the suspension set-up. The Urus S will be positioned as the starting model in the range and focus more on luxury.

The facelifted Urus will feature some cosmetic upgrades like a new bonnet with cooling vents and slightly more aggressive front and rear bumpers. The interior is exactly the same as before, but Lamborghini is offering a wider range of upholstery and trim options for the interior for greater customisation.

Mechanically, the Urus S uses the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 as the older model but it now produces 666hp – 16hp more than before. Torque figure remains unchanged at 850Nm and power is delivered to all four wheels via an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Coming: Mid 2023
Engines: 4.0-litre petrol
Expected Price Rs 4 crore-4.2 crore

Maserati MC20

Maserati’s new mid-engined supercar is the brand’s first car in 20 years to use an in-house-developed engine, named Nettuno. This engine will also see duty in other future Maserati models. The open-top MC20 Cielo should also be headed to Indian shores soon.

The main focus of the MC20’s design is on maximising aerodynamic efficiency. However, some visual influences from the limited-run homologated race car, the MC12, and other iconic Maseratis can also be seen.

The 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine churns out 630hp and 730Nm of torque sending power to the rear wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Coming: Mid 2023
Engines: 3.0-litre petrol
Expected Price Rs 3.5 crore

Skoda Octavia RS

The Octavia RS iV plug-in hybrid will come to India in limited numbers as a completely built-up (CBU) unit. Despite using a smaller 1.4-litre turbocharged engine, the RS iV makes the same horsepower as its petrol counterpart – 245hp. However, the e-motor helps bump the torque to 400Nm. The boot space has also taken a hit due to the battery pack’s placement. The 13kWh unit gives it an electric-only range of 60km and increases the fuel efficiency to 83kpl. Skoda claims the RS iV can do 0-62kph on electric power alone.

The new RS iV also features subtle sportier changes on the inside and outside over the regular models.

Coming: Late 2023
Engines: 1.4-litre petrol
Expected Price Rs 45 lakh-50 lakh
