PHS Automotive Malaysia (PHSAM) said it had become the sole distributor of Volkswagen Group’s Audi brand in Malaysia, taking responsibility for wholesale, marketing and aftersale activities.
The company, a subsidiary of European distributor Porsche Holding Salzburg (PHS), which is part of the VW Group, is managed by Erik Winter and Kurt Leitner, who also run local distributor Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM). They were responsible for the recent expansion of VW in Malaysia, including setting up local CKD assembly.
VW sold 2,160 vehicles in Malaysia last year, of which around two thirds were SUVs, according to data released by the Malaysian Automotive Association. The association reported no Audi sales.
PHSAM said it aimed to strengthen the Audi SUV, S line and quattro model lines in the country while also focusing on importing electric vehicles.
Winter said: “The premium automotive landscape is extremely competitive. We have plenty to do and multiple challenges to overcome but we are fully committed to the growth of the Audi brand. With the strength of our local teams and PHS’ global expertise, we are confident of sustainable growth in this market.”
