With the introductory offer now over, the MG Gloster’s price has been hiked by up to Rs 1 lakh. Introduced early in October, the Gloster’s launch prices were only valid for the first 2,000 customers or till October 31, and MG says it has since received over 2,000 bookings for its flagship SUV.

MG Gloster Savvy, Sharp in demand
Sources say that of the five versions on offer, it’s the higher-spec trims that are attracting maximum customers, with the Sharp and fully-loaded Savvy 4×4 making up over 90 percent of all MG Gloster bookings. Among other things, the Savvy packs a number of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), andit’s the 6-seat versions – with segment-first captain seats for second-row passengers – that most buyers are reportedly opting for.
While MG hasn’t closed bookings for the Gloster, with over 2,000 bookings in hand, the SUV is sold out for the rest of the year, and deliveries for fresh bookings will likely only commence in 2021.
MG Motor India sales rise in October
The over-2,000 bookings for the Gloster only served to sweeten the month of October for MG Motor India, which reported its highest sales figures since its India entry in 2019. Last month, MG sold 3,750 vehicles, including 3,625 units of the MG Hector and 125 units of the MG ZS EV.
MG Gloster engine, gearbox options
Buyers have a choice of two engine options with the MG Gloster – a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that makes 163hp and 375Nm of torque, and a twin-turbo version of the same engine, which produces a substantially higher 218hp and 480Nm of torque.
The single-turbo diesel is only available in the Super and Smart trim levels, while the Sharp and Savvy get the twin-turbo diesel engine. An 8-speed automatic gearbox is standard, and the twin-turbo versions come with all-wheel-drive as well.
In India, the MG Gloster rivals other three-row ladder-frame SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Mahindra Alturas G4. With the price hike, the entry-level Gloster is now priced on par with the Endeavour and higher than the Alturas G4, but still undercuts the base Fortuner diesel by Rs 69,000.
