MG4 EV hatchback and 5EV estate also showcased; MG Motor India confirms a new premium chain of outlets.
MG Motor India has taken the wraps off the Cyberster in our country for the first time and confirmed that it will be introducing a new network of premium outlets for its more upmarket offerings. While the Chinese-owned British brand has yet to confirm which models will be sold from these new premium showrooms, the Cyberster is a likely candidate. The EV is MG’s first-ever electric sportscar and is set to go on sale in international markets later this year.
- Top-spec Cyberster EV gets 77kWh battery, 535hp and up to 580km of range
- To rival next-gen Porsche 718 range in international markets
- MG’s “affordable” sportscar to cost about Rs 53 lakh abroad
MG Motor had revealed the drop-top EV back in 2023, with two battery pack and motor options. The entry-level model gets a 64kWh battery with a claimed range of 520km, which powers a single rear axle-mounted 308hp motor. The range-topping Cyberster has a 77kWh battery pack, which has a CLTC-rated range of 580km, and powers two electric motors making a combined 535hp and 725Nm of peak torque. This helps the 1,985kg dual-motor AWD variant sprint to 100kph in 3.2 seconds.
The rival to the next-gen Porsche 718 line-up (which will have all-electric versions) is larger than the current Boxster by a narrow margin. It measures 4,533mm in length, 1,912mm in width and 1,328mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,689mm.

MG Motor is expected to reveal prices for the Cyberster in international markets by mid-2024. The brand claims it an “affordable” sportscar with a likely starting price of around GBP 50,000 (Rs 53 lakh approx), which is quite reasonable even by Indian standards.
For reference, BYD recently brought in the Seal EV to India – in dual-motor AWD configuration it has 530hp, a 82.56kWh battery and up to 580km of range (NEDC) – with prices ranging between Rs 41 lakh-53 lakh, ex-showroom, India. If MG Motor India decides to launch the Cyberster here, the BYD Seal, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 will be among its rivals.
MG4 hatchback, 5 estate showcased
MG Motor India has also brought the 4 EV hatchback and the 5 EV estate to India for the event. Both models were showcased at Auto Expo 2023, and share a number of styling cues. While the smaller 4 gets 51kWh and 64kWh options, with WLTP ranges of 350km and 452km, respectively, the larger 5 is powered by a 61.1kWh battery that has a claimed range of 402km.
