Refreshed GLE is available with three engine options; mild-hybrid system standard on all variants.
Mercedes-Benz has launched the GLE facelift at Rs 96.4 lakh. The SUV is available with a choice of two diesel engines and a single petrol engine. The model was the German brand’s second best-seller in the financial year 2023, marginally behind the GLS. Mercedes Benz GLE facelift design and trims
The Mercedes-Benz GLE facelift was globally unveiled earlier this year. All SUV trims get a redesigned headlight and tail-light design, with a single chrome strip running horizontally across the center of the grille for the AMG Line and a double strip on the Professional Line. The AMG line trim gets exterior features to set it apart from the Professional Line.
Mercedes Benz GLE facelift interior and features
On the inside, the facelifted GLE gets refreshed interiors that include elements borrowed from the S-Class, like the multi-function steering wheel with haptic feedback buttons. The AC vents get a chrome surround, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, and a 12.3-inch digital driver display. A few comfort features that deserve special mention are a 13-speaker Burmester surround sound system, wireless charging and USB Type C ports, a 360-deg camera, and Mercedes’ ‘Transparent Bonnet’ function. The top-spec GLE 450 and 450d also get air suspension.
Mercedes Benz GLE facelift powertrains
All the powertrains available with the GLE LWB facelift are paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels via Mercedes’ 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. All three engines also have a mild-hybrid 48V integrated starter-generator (ISG), adding an additional 20hp and 200Nm to their peak outputs.
The GLE 300d gets a 2.0-litre diesel engine, which is a four-cylinder unit that produces 269hp and 550Nm of torque, and propels this SUV to the ton mark in 6.9 seconds. The GLE 450d utilises a six-cylinder diesel engine that produces 367hp and 750Nm, helping this behemoth peform the 0-100kph sprint in 5.6 seconds.
The petrol-powered GLE 450 has 381hp and 500Nm from a six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, giving it the same 0-100kph time as the 450d, 5.6 seconds.
Mercedes Benz GLE facelift rivals
At this price point, the Mercedes GLE LWB facelift rivals luxury SUVs like the BMW X5 (Rs 95.2 lakh), Audi Q7 (Rs 84.7 lakh), and the Range Rover Velar (Rs 94.3 lakh).
