Mercedes-AMG will announce pricing for the high-performance E 63S in India on July 15, 2021. The company will, for the first time, introduce the E 53 sedan in India as well with a market launch slated to take place on the same day. These two new model introductions in India will take the German brand’s tally to ten launches in 2021. Both sedans will come with Mercedes’ 4Matic+ all-wheel drive and will have the standard length wheelbase as opposed to the long wheelbase version that is available on the non-AMG variants.

Updated Mercedes-AMG E 63S: What’s new?
The refreshed performance-oriented E-class gains design revisions in line with the facelifted model that went on sale in India recently. It gets styling bits aimed at forging a stronger link with Mercedes-AMG’s global line-up. In an effort to differentiate it more from the recently updated E-class range, the new E 63S features an AMG-specific radiator grille with 12 vertical slats and an enlarged Mercedes star logo.
As far as power goes, the new E 63S retains the pre-facelift version’s 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo powerplant which produces 612hp and 850Nm of torque in the top-spec S version that is expected to come to India. Power continues to be sent to all four wheels through a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
Updated Mercedes-AMG E 63S: more details
The refreshed performance sedan also gets tweaked AMG Dynamic select software and drive programmes that include updates to the software controlling its all-wheel-drive systems, and ESP stability control. All these updates propel the E 63S to 100kph in 3.4 seconds, according to the manufacturer.
At the rear, there are flatter brake lights and a reshaped apron, which has also been aerodynamically optimised. There is also a new diffuser. Standard wheel size for the E 63S remains at 20-inch, alloy wheels are standard.
On the inside, it gets the latest version of the MBUX infotainment system and digital instrument display, both of which offer bespoke AMG display options. There is also a new twin-spoke AMG Performance steering wheel with haptic feedback controls, and it includes a ‘hands on’ sensor that will trigger warnings and, eventually, activate emergency brake assist if it detects the driver does not have their hands on the wheel for an extended period. Mated to the new wheel are larger aluminium paddleshifters that can operate the 9-speed transmission.
Mercedes-AMG E 53 incoming too
Mercedes-AMG will introduce its second model in India from the 53 series. The new E 53 sedan will sit below the top-dog E 63S in the Indian range. The E 53 shares its powerplant with the GLE 53 Coupe which is already on sale in India.
Power comes from a 435hp, 3.0-litre, in-line, six-cylinder, twin-turbo petrol engine. The unit is paired to a 48V mild-hybrid system (Mercedes calls it EQ Boost) that adds up to 22hp and 250Nm of torque under hard acceleration. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox and Mercedes’ 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system.
Mercedes-AMG E 63S and E 53: rivals in India
While the E 63S will see competition from the likes of the BMW M5 in India. The milder E 53 may not have any direct rivals at launch.
