Following the GranTurismo from 2023, Maserati has just unveiled the all-new GranCabrio with the promise that it enhances the theatre of its GranTurismo sibling without introducing compromises to performance or comfort. It trades a coupe roof for a folding fabric arrangement that can be lowered or raised in 14 seconds at vehicle speeds of up to 50kph.

  1. GranCabrio is powered by 542hp, twin-turbo V6 engine
  2. Also expected to come in all-electric Folgore guise at a later stage

Maserati GranCabrio powertrain details

The GranCabrio shares its Nettuno 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine with the GranTurismo and MC20 sportscars. At launch, it has been unveiled only in top-spec Trofeo guise where it produces 550hp and gets all-wheel drive as standard.

Maserati hasn’t revealed acceleration figures or the top-speeds of the GranCabrio yet, but claims the GranTurismo can sprint from 0-100kph in 3.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 320kph. These statistics are likely to be reduced slightly by the conversion to a convertible.

Maserati has yet to confirm whether the GranCabrio will also be available with the coupe’s 490hp V6 and 760hp electric powertrains, but the Folgore EV has previously been spotted undergoing testing abroad, suggesting it will arrive imminently.

Maserati GranCabrio exterior and interior

The GranCabrio looks very similar to its coupe sibling, but instead of a roof, it gets a fabric soft top that’s available in five colours and can be operated from the central display via a touch button. It has quintessential sportscar proportions with Maserati’s signature details like the oval grille with the Trident logo, the three air vents on the front fenders and the signature slim, vertical headlamps with thin, L-shaped LED daytime running lamps.

On the inside, too, nothing much has changed from the coupe sibling – there are dual screens for the infotainment and HVAC controls and a classic analog clock on the dashboard. The steering wheel and digital dials also remain unchanged. A new neck-warmer system is standard, offering three levels of heat output. However, the manually operated wind deflector, which reduces turbulence over the passengers, is an optional extra.

Maserati in India

The last new Maserati that was launched in India was the MC20, back in March 2023. The company had previously confirmed that the GranTurismo coupe will arrive here between April-June 2024, and the GranTurismo Folgore EV in the October-December period. Given that Maserati has offered the GranCabrio in its previous iterations here in India, expect this new model to also come here, perhaps sometime in 2025.
