Maruti Fronx price, Fronx turbo demand, Delta Plus, waiting period details

Buyers are finding the Fronx turbo variants expensive; price difference between NA and turbo line-up is at least Rs 1 lakh.

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx, which was launched in April, is not only the carmaker’s first sub-4m SUV for its Nexa dealership chain, but it also marks the return of the 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine. The Fronx also gets the naturally aspirated 1.2-litre K-series petrol that’s found on many other Maruti Suzuki models. The carmaker now says that the Boosterjet variant stands only for 13 percent of the Fronx’s total sales.

  1. Fronx prices start at Rs 7.46 lakh
  2. Fronx Boosterjet prices start at Rs 9.72 lakh
  3. Fronx Delta Plus is the most popular variant

Maruti Fronx: 1.2-litre NA engine in demand

At launch, the Fronx already had an order backlog of more than 20,000 units, and deliveries are now underway at most outlets. A quick check with dealers reveals that the 1.2-litre-equipped variants hold the lion’s share of the bookings, even though they are a bit down on power and equipment. This was not the case when the car was unveiled as, according to Maruti Suzuki, a large chunk of the bookings then were for the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol-equipped variants. Once the prices were announced, the numbers tilted towards the 1.2-litre NA-powered Fronx, which starts at Rs 7.46 lakh. There is a difference of at least Rs 1 lakh in price between variants equipped with the 1.2-litre NA engine and the more powerful Boosterjet engine.

Maruti Fronx: popular variants

Waiting periods for the 1.2 Delta Plus are as high as three months at some locations. This variant is mostly being booked by buyers looking for a decently equipped Fronx automatic to be used in the city, and are not keen to spend extra for the turbo-petrol engine. The Fronx Delta Plus gets features like a touchscreen infotainment, a reverse parking camera, LED headlamps and alloy wheels. In fact, the Delta Plus is the only variant that’s available on both engine options (and both gearboxes for the 1.2) and is the most in demand.

Many buyers are finding the Boosterjet-equipped Fronx – especially with the torque converter automatic (Rs 12.05 lakh-12.97 lakh) – to be on the steeper side, and this is prompting most to settle with the Delta Plus 1.2 AMT, priced at Rs 9.27 lakh – about Rs 2.7 lakh cheaper. The Fronx starts at Rs 7.46 lakh for the entry-level 1.2 petrol line-up, with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol variant starting at Rs 9.72 lakh. What’s important to note is that the 1.2 line-up ends at the Delta Plus variant, so buyers looking for a more feature-packed Fronx have no option but to go with the expensive Boosterjet engine.
