2022 Maruti Ertiga: what’s new?

In terms of design, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga gains a new front grille with an embedded ‘winged’ chrome trim, new dual-tone alloy wheels and chrome garnish on the tailgate. There’s two new colours to choose from as well – Splendid Silver and Dignity Brown. Inside the cabin, the Ertiga facelift recieves a new Metallic Teak Wooden finish (faux wood) on the dashboard and a new dual-tone seat fabric.

2022 Maruti Ertiga: powertrain and fuel efficiency details

The biggest change however, is under the hood as the Ertiga comes with a new 1.5-litre DualJet engine with start-stop technology. This engine uses two injectors per cylinder, giving it greater control over fuel injection, and, as a result, greater power and efficiency. It puts out 103hp at 6000rpm and 136.8Nm at 4400rpm, which is 2hp and 1.2Nm down on the outgoing 1.5 engine.

The same engine also powers the Vitara SUV sold overseas, albeit as a full hybrid with a combined power of 148hp. In India, however, Maruti Suzuki will not offer a full hybrid set-up, but it does get the start-stop technology. Until now, Maruti Suzuki was offering the DualJet technology only in their 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre K-Series engines. This would be the first time that the carmaker is offering it on its larger 1.5-litre motor. The same engine is expected to go in other, bigger Maruti cars.

A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard. Additionally, the ageing 4-speed torque-converter automatic of the outgoing model has been replaced by a new 6-speed unit with paddleshifters. The Ertiga facelift is claimed to do 20.51kpl with the manual gearbox and 20.30kpl with the auto.

Maruti has also introduced a CNG option to the new Ertiga’s lineup, using the same 1.5 DualJet engine. It produces 87hp and 121.5Nm when run on CNG and 100hp and 136Nm when run in petrol mode. The Ertiga facelift CNG comes with a 5-speed manual only and is claimed to do 26.11km/kg.

2022 Maruti Ertiga: features on offer

The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga facelift, in its top-spec ZXI+ trim, is equipped with a 7-inch SmartPlay Pro infotainment touchscreen which gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. It also gets the Suzuki Connect connected car tech with over 40 features and an onboard voice assistant. Other features include 4 airbags, ABS with EBD and BA, hill-hold assist, ESP, ISOFIX mounts, parking camera, cruise control, auto headlamps, electrically foldable ORVMs, air-cooled cupholders and AC vents for all three rows.

Maruti Suzuki launches on the horizon

The new XL6 is a part of Maruti Suzuki’s plan to launch six new models by mid-2022. These include the Baleno CNG, updated Vitara Brezza, and DualJet-equipped Ignis and S-Presso. Later in the year, Maruti Suzuki will also launch the all-new Creta-rivalling midsize SUV that is being developed in collaboration with Toyota.
