Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 – What’s new?
This is the second update to the Super Trofeo model and Lamborghini calls it the most high-performance version ever to race in its one-make series. Lamborghini’s racing division Squadra Corse and its design arm Centro Stile mainly focused on the racer’s aerodynamics and design to boost performance.
It sports new, slimmer front and rear LED light clusters with a hexagonal design. Also new is the more pronounced front spoiler lip that joins the carbon fibre fins (a nod to the Huracan STO) and new air curtain intakes which optimise airflow as well as downforce. The rear sports a large carbon fibre wing, while the taillight surrounds pay tribute to the Countach. The rear diffuser fins have been redesigned, too.
The updates don’t stop there – the body paneling has been changed, with Lamborghini replacing plastic materials with carbon fibre. The rear fenders are now composed of a single element, which includes part of the side spoiler, for optimal surface continuity.
The Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 also gets an updated braking system. The steel front discs now measure 390mm, up by 10mm compared to earlier. Meanwhile, the new calipers can accommodate pads with a new design and a larger surface area for better braking performance.
It will continue to use the road car’s 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 that delivers 620hp. Transmission duties are handled by a sequential six-speed X-Trac gearbox, combined with rear-wheel drive.
Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 hints at future Lamborghini design
Talking about the new racer, Lamborghini’s Head of Design Mitja Borkert revealed that the Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 does in fact hint at the design of future models. “When we approached the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 project, we immediately thought of the concept of ‘Racing in style’. That is, a combination of the typical aggressiveness of the Huracán racing cars and the classic stylistic features of Lamborghini’s DNA,” he said.
“In addition, the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 represents a futuristic aesthetic approach that partially anticipates the design elements of the next range of road cars.”
The Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 will make its public debut at the second round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe in Le Castellet, France, on May 28. It will be sold in Europe for €250,000 (approximately Rs 2.21 crore), excluding taxes.
Those who own the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO will have the option to upgrade it with a dedicated kit that will be available from early 2022.
