Kush Maini joins 2023 Formula 2 grid

The Indian racer moves a step closer to F1 after being confirmed as part of Campos Racing’s 2023 F2 line-up.

Kush Maini will be competing in Formula 2 next year, as part of Campos Racing’s roster. The Indian racer graduates from Formula 3, where he finished 14th overall last year, with one podium appearance.

F2 is the highest level single-seater feeder series and sits just a rung below Formula 1. Some of the biggest names in F1 today, including Charles Leclerc and George Russell have graduated from the series.

Maini will partner Swiss driver Ralph Boschung at Compos Racing next year. In fact, he shares a family connection with the team – his older brother Arjun Maini also raced for them in F2 for some select rounds back in 2019.

Both Maini and Boschung will carry out pre-season testing for Campos on November 23-25 at Abu Dhabi. “Super happy to be joining Campos Racing team! I’ve spent some time with the team at their workshop and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the professionalism, looking forward to the three-day test at Abu Dhabi to officially start our relationship together!”Maini said.

22-year-old Maini made his single-seater debut in 2016, racing in the Italian F4 Championship. He then raced in Formula Renault Eurocup and British Formula 3, where he finished second overall in 2020.

He made his FIA F3 debut last year, and was 14th in the drivers’ standings. His best finish of third place came at the Budapest Sprint Race.

“On behalf of Campos Racing, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Kush (Maini). He is a very committed, professional racing driver with a great work capacity, so we expect he will be able to complete a strong rookie season next year. He carried out some strong performances in FIA Formula 3 this season and hopefully he will make further improvements in the ultra-competitive FIA F2 Championship,” said Campos Racing Team Principal Adrián Campos.
