This could be an early test mule of the 2023 390 Adventure or a possibly a more focused variant of the standard motorcycle.
New images of a 390 Adventure prototype show that KTM has a heavily updated version of the motorcycle in the works. The pictures reveal that the bike has big changes when it comes to the ergonomics.
These images of the new 390 Adventure have surfaced less than a week after the 2022 model was revealed. To recap, the 2022 390 Adventure gets updates for its traction control system, alloy wheel design and colours. This rules out the possibility of the prototype in the images being the updated 2022 model.
The prototype is most likely either an updated model that could arrive in 2023 or a new variant. One of the biggest changes seen on the prototype is the revised front-end. The entire unit that encompasses the headlight and instrumentation now sits a lot higher in a similar manner as on KTM’s Dakar rally bikes. The instrument cluster itself is also positioned higher and more upright.
Another change comes in the form of the windscreen that’s a lot larger. One can expect significantly improved wind protection on this version. KTM has also reworked the ergonomics, with a taller handlebar and flat-mounted footpegs that aren’t canted forward like the existing bike.
While the bike still appears to use the 19/17 inch alloy wheels, it looks like they are paired to slightly more aggressive block pattern tyres. The bike is also missing a bash plate, but it’s something that will probably be seen on the production version. One of the two prototypes seen in the image also appears to be running a different exhaust.
Do you think this is an updated 390 Adventure that will possibly debut in 2023, or a more focused R variant? Given the alloy wheels and lack of clearly visible longer travel suspension, the former appears to be more likely. Let us know in the comments below.
