The design of the upcoming Kinetic eLuna appears to be quite similar to the earlier petrol-powered Luna.

As we reported earlier, Kinetic is working on a battery-powered successor to the massively popular Luna. This modern incarnation will be called the eLuna and now the design of this upcoming EV has been patented.

  1. Basic underpinnings on offer
  2. Large scooped-out storage area like most mopeds
  3. Could feature swappable battery

Kinetic eLuna design and powertrain details

The design of the eLuna borrows heavy design inspiration from its ICE predecessor. What can be seen is that it runs on what appear to be 16-inch wire-spoke wheels and that it also gets pedal assistance in addition to battery power. Just like the earlier Luna and the TVS XL 100 moped, the eLuna gets a large storage area at the front and it also comes with crash guards as standard.

The underpinnings are fairly basic with a simple telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers along with drum brakes at either end. The eLuna will come with a split seat setup with a grab rail for the pillion. Considering the fact that the eLuna has a provision for a front number plate it will most likely be a ‘high-speed’ EV and will have a top speed in excess of 25kph.

It remains to be seen whether the battery is a swappable unit like the new Bajaj-built Yulus and the method of final drive also not visible. The earlier Luna had a chain drive (as did the earlier Chinese-origin Yulus) but most low-cost EVs today come with a hub-mounted motor, so it remains to be seen what route the eLuna ventures down.
