The Kawasaki Versys X-300, currently available overseas, was recently spotted testing in Pune. The design of the Versys X-300 test mule also closely resembles the international specification model.

Retaining the looks of its global spec model, the Kawasaki Versys X-300 test mule features a single pod headlamp design and a long transparent windscreen. Apart from this, it features a long fuel tank design with tank extensions that shields the radiator. The rider posture indicates mid-set foot peg setup and an upright riding posture.
Just like its global counterpart, the Versys X-300 is expected to feature a liquid-cooled, 296cc, parallel twin engine from the Ninja 300. Producing 38hp and 26Nm, the engine will come mated to a six speed gearbox. It features identical cycle parts as well, with its body suspended with a telescopic fork and a preload adjustable monoshock.
The braking duties are handled by front and rear discs with dual-channel ABS. The baby Versys will also feature a 19-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, both wire spoked wheels shod in narrow tubed tires. However, a fatter tubeless option would be far more conventional.
Priced at $6,199 (Rs 5.15 lakh) in the American market, the Versys X-300 may come to India with a premium price tag. While most models in India offer an all-LED lighting setup at this price, a LED headlamp instead of the halogen bulbs may look appealing. Upon its launch, it will rival the KTM 390 Adventure, Royal Enfield Himalayan, BMW G 310 GS, Triumph Scrambler 400 X.
Interestingly, the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 was sold in India many years back, although the bike was a commercial failure thanks to a prohibitively high price. However, given the sizable growth in the ADV bike space since then, it appears that Kawasaki may be working on bringing the bike back, but this time heavily localised and with a lower price to match.
