Jeep Wrangler facelift gets updated exterior and interior but retains the same powertrains.

Jeep unveiled the facelift of its popular Wrangler SUV at the 2023 New York Auto Show. The fourth-generation Wrangler originally debuted back in 2017. The American SUV maker has finally released an update for the Wrangler with which it gets a revised front fascia, new alloy wheels and a new 12.3-inch infotainment system.

  1. Jeep Wrangler facelift gets a new, smaller grille
  2. It also gets a new 12.3-inch touchscreen
  3. Jeep has added two new trims – Sport S 4xe and Rubicon X

Jeep Wrangler facelift exterior changes

The 2024 Wrangler now gets a smaller grille with black slots as standard, except for the Wrangler Sahara trim. The slots are now thinner than before and are designed to improve engine cooling. With the thinner grille, there’s more room to equip the heavy-duty Warn winch that is available with the Rubicon models.

Over to the sides, the Wrangler SUV now has the option to choose between 10 different alloy wheel designs ranging from 17-inch to 20-inch. Depending on the package, the Wrangler can also be equipped with up to 35-inch tyres. It also gets multiple roof options such as the standard soft top, a body-coloured hard top, a black hard top, a combination of hard and soft top, a Sunrider top that just opens up for the front passengers and a dual-door group with half doors.

Jeep Wrangler facelift interior and features

More than just exterior changes, Jeep has also updated the interior of the Wrangler SUV. Front and centre is a new 12.3-inch touchscreen that is standard across all trims. While the outgoing model had round airconditioning vents with the older 8.4-inch touchscreen, the facelift gets smaller, rectangular vents positioned below the screen. However, the facelift retains the round vents at the corners. Rest of the interior remains the same visually.

The Wrangler facelift also gets Uconnect 5 system that brings connected features to the SUV. This includes the Trails Offroad guide that has 62 well-known off-road trails incorporated into the infotainment system as standard. Buyers in the USA will be able to purchase a premium subscription that has over 3,000 trails.

Jeep Wrangler facelift trims

Jeep has added two new trim levels to the Wrangler – Sport S 4xe and Rubicon X. The former brings hybrid power to lower spec trims, while the latter adds more off-road hardware to the already off-road-oriented Rubicon with 35-inch tyres and integrated off-road cameras. Existing trim levels include Sport, Willys, Sahara, High Altitude, Rubicon and Rubicon 392.

Jeep Wrangler facelift powertrains

The only thing Jeep hasn’t updated in the Wrangler facelift is the powertrain. It is available with a choice of four engines – a 2.0-litre PHEV, a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, a 3.6-litre V6 and a 6.4-litre V8. The PHEV develops 375hp and 637Nm of torque, while the 2.0-litre petrol engine produces 270hp and 400Nm. The 3.6-litre naturally-aspirated V6 petrol engine produces 285hp and 353Nm of torque, whereas the full-fat V8 petrol engine churns out 470hp and 637Nm of torque. All engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox but only the V6 gets the option of a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Will the Jeep Wrangler facelift come to India?

Jeep launched the Wrangler in India originally in 2019 which came as a completely built unit (CBU). In 2021, Jeep relaunched the Wrangler in a locally assembled avatar, which is assembled at Jeep’s Ranjangaon plant in Pune. We expect the facelift to also come to India and like the model available here currently, it could only come with the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. It remains to be seen if Jeep will launch the 4xe PHEV variant.

While the current Jeep Wrangler is priced between Rs 59.05 lakh-63.05 lakh, expect the Jeep Wrangler to be priced at a slight premium. When launched, the Wrangler facelift will rival the Land Rover Defender.
