The global auto industry noticed a 0.2% drop in IT hiring activity in May 2022 over the previous month, led by Dana’s 6.35% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The auto industry’s overall hiring activity increased 0.44% when compared with April 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 5.18% share of the global auto industry’s hiring activity in May 2022, up 0.03% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of May 2022 were 0.77% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 2.4% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive auto IT hiring activity
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 61.41% emerged as the top IT occupation in the auto hiring activity in May 2022, a 6.76% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 14.97% in May 2022, down 2.02% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 7% share in May 2022, a growth of 2.82% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Research Scientists with a 6.96% share in May 2022 and a rise of 5.85% over April 2022.

Top five auto companies by recruitment activity in May 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 48.07% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global auto industry during May 2022 over April 2022.
Dana posted 165 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a drop of 13.61% over the previous month, followed by Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche with 157 jobs and a flat growth. BorgWarner with 148 IT jobs and Ford Motor with 140 jobs, recorded a 348.48% growth and a 5.41% drop, respectively, while Tesla recorded a 1.68% drop with 117 job postings during May 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in auto industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global auto IT hiring activity in May 2022 with a 49.06% share, which marked a 4.77% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 27.47%, registering a 13.88% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 22.7% share and an 8.66% rise over April 2022.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.46% and a month-on-month drop of 25%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.31%, registering a 63.64% decrease over the previous month.
