Hyundai Verna price, design, launch date, booking details, Hyundai Accent

New Verna looks equally stylish from the rear as it does from the front three quarters; will come with petrol engines only.

Hyundai will take the wraps off the all-new Verna next month and the brand has already announced multiple details about the car along with revealing its styling from the front three quarters. We’ve got our hands on a new spy shot today where the next-gen Hyundai Verna, sold as Hyundai Accent in some international markets can be seen from the rear three quarters, giving us a first look on what the production-spec sedan would look like.

  • New Hyundai Verna to be feature laden
  • Expected to get ADAS and more tech
  • Will be petrol only

New Hyundai Verna: rear looks as stylish as the front

The new spy shot, shows the car from the rear three quarters which was so far not revealed by the brand.  The car has been seen in South Korea in its production spec, most likely on a commercial ad shoot.  The badge on the car says Hyundai Accent as the Verna is sold as the Hyundai Accent in multiple left-hand drive markets including the Middle East, South Korea and a few others.  For India and a few other right hand drive markets, the same sedan (Codename: BN7) is popularly known as the Hyundai Verna.

The undisguised spy shot confirms the unique taillamp design and also the connected LED light bar that gets crystal like inserts.  The taillamps get two vertical extensions on each side which look striking.  The new Verna’s rear sort of protrudes on the outside, especially the part above the taillamp that also houses a big Hyundai logo which looks like the new 2D iteration that is currently seen on the Grand i10 and the Aura facelift in India. The reverse lamps seem to be housed in separate units at each corner below the taillamps and are split in three horizontal lines.  The rear bumper gets its share of textures, cuts and creases and gets a body coloured faux skid plate that also houses the third stop lamp. While that setup looks new, it remains to be seen if the India-bound Verna gets the same layout.

New Hyundai Verna: new 1.5T petrol, no diesel

The next-gen Verna will get new 1.5-litre direct injection turbo-petrol good for 160hp, mated to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. The same engine will also see duty on most Hyundai-Kia models in India like the Creta, Seltos and Carens, and replace the existing 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine.

The entry-level engine option will be the 115hp, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol carried over from the outgoing Verna, paired to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. Both the engines will be RDE and E20 (20 percent ethanol blend) compliant.  The new Verna howver will not get a diesel engine and, with this, the midsize sedan segment will go on to be petrol-only as its rivals do not offer a diesel engine either.

New Hyundai Verna: variant details and pricing

Along with confirming acceptance of bookings, Hyundai has announced that the new Verna will be sold in EX, S, SX and SX (O) variants. We expect the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine to be available on the higher trims, with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine used in the lower variants. Expect the new Verna to be priced around Rs 60,000-1 lakh more than the outgoing sedan.

New Hyundai Verna: rivals in India

The new Verna will continue to rival the existing mid-size sedans that include the Volkswagen VirtusSkoda Slavia, the upcoming Honda City facelift as well as the recently updated Maruti Suzuki Ciaz
