Hyundai Mobis has an ADAS brainwave

Hyundai Mobis claims to have introduced a ‘world first’ brainwaves based ADAS system called M.Brain.

Supplier Hyundai Mobis said it had developed M.Brain, a new healthcare technology based on brainwave measurement and was using it for the automotive industry.

“Among other biosignals, brainwave measurement is known to be one of the most advanced and challenged technologies to work with,” the company said.

M.Brain measures the driver’s condition in real time by detecting brainwaves around the ears through earpiece sensors. The supplier has adopted machine learning to interpret brainwave signals.

M.Brain can be linked to a smartphone app and notify a driver he or she is losing attention. The accident prevention technology also provides varying sensory alerts such as sight (LEDs around the driver’s seat), touch (vibrating seat) and hearing (headrest speaker).

M. Brain will be tested first in South Korea using Gyeonggi-do public buses.

“Brainwave-based technology shows infinite potential for development as it is capable of measuring massive amounts of data which is why M.Brain is considered an innovative technology,” Hyundai Mobis said.

Hyundai Mobis is developing autonomous driving healthcare technology using biosignals.

At the 2018 CES, the company showed off DDREM (Departed Driver Rescue & Exit Maneuver), which works to prevent accidents that occur as a result of drowsy driving.

It developed eye tracking DSW (Driver State Warning) in 2019, and ROA (Rear Occupant Alert), to detect infants in the back seat using radar, last year.
