Hyundai India is all set to launch the Exter SUV in India on July 10, 2023. Hyundai has, so far, partially shown the Exter’s design, and has also revealed its powertrain line-up and some of its features. The Exter is Hyundai’s smallest SUV for India and will sit below the Venue

  1. Hyundai Exter gets two powertrains, five trims
  2. Single pane sunroof on higher variants
  3. Six airbags standard on all variants

Hyundai Exter:  deliveries to commence by late July

Bookings for the Exter are in full swings and dealers tell us that the first units of the Exter will most likely reach customers by third or fourth week of July.  A large chunk of buyers have opted for the higher variants of the Exter with automatic gearbox equipped ones being booked in majority.  Dealers however tell us that the bookings and the variant spilt will change once prices are announced as buyers do adjust their preferences and change their selected variant to the one that fits their budget.

Hyundai Exter: 1.2-liter engine with petrol, CNG

The Exter gets a 1.2-liter petrol engine along with CNG option.  Five-speed manual or an AMT automatic can be selected on the petrol while the CNG comes with manual gearbox options only.   It shares platform and some other underpinnings along with interior bits and switchgear from the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Aura.  Five trim levels are on offer – EX, S, SX, SX(O) and top-spec SX(O) Connect. It also gets standard six airbags across all variants along with more unique features like dual cameras and a single pane sunroof in higher variants.

Hyundai Exter: upright SUV design

Official releases and spy shots have already shown the Exter partially and recent spy shots of the SUV  have already revealed the final design.  It gets boxy proportions with split headlamp setup, an upright nose and tailgate with slightly raked rear glass area.  In profile, Hyundai’s smallest SUV gets round and slightly flared wheel arches with thick cladding all along. There are stylish, dual-tone alloy wheels, roof rails, a textured finish for the C-pillar and dual-tone paint options with a floating roof effect. The Exter’s head and taillamps that feature H-patterned LED lighting elements which will be seen on more Hyundai models in future. Hyundai is yet to release details about the Exter’s interior.

Hyundai Exter: rivals in India

Key rivals to the Exter include the Tata Punch and the Citroen C3;  While the Exter’s pricing isn’t known yet, what can be confirmed is that the micro SUV from Hyundai will surely be up on its rivals in terms of features and equipment on offer. Expect Hyundai, like its other SUV range, to price the Exter competitively in the Indian market.
