In 2022, Minister of Road Transport, Nitin Gadkari said that 3-point seatbelts for front-facing passengers would be made mandatory.
Shortly after upgrading its entire car, SUV line-up for the recently enforced BS6.2 emission norms, Hyundai India has now released another update for some of its models and this time, the focus on adding safety equipment in models like the Creta, the Venue and the i20 hatchback.

Hyundai Creta gets the most feature updates
The Creta, Hyundai’s popular mid-size SUV is now available with either a 1.5-liter diesel and a 1.5-liter petrol engine option post RDE update. The 1.4-liter turbo petrol has been laid to rest and will be replaced by a new 1.5-liter turbo petrol from the Verna in the coming months.
Additionally, three-point seatbelts are standard across all seats on the Creta. Rear seats get adjustable headrests and 60:40 split seating for all variants. For those who prefer lounging in the backseat of the Creta, Hyundai has given it the option to be reclined by 2-steps. These updates are across all variants.
Hyundai i20, Venue get three-point seatbelts, adjustable headrests
The Hyundai i20 has been a faithful servant to the company since 2009. The hatchback offered great performance, comfort and safety which is why Indian consumers wasted almost no time in increasing sales. In the latest update, Hyundai has added 3-point seatbelts to all seats including the rear. Adjustable headrests have also been added to the rear seats. Once again, these updates are standard across all variants.
The Hyundai Venue sits below the Creta in the Hyundai lineup and is relatively new compared to the above models. Hyundai recently launched the N-line trim of the Venue and has now given the standard Venue more updates. Just like the Creta, the Venue also received all of its updates to the rear seat. 3-point seatbelts across all front-facing seats, 60:40 split rear seats, 2-step reclining seats and adjustable rear headrests are now standard across all models.
Safety updates done ahead of October 2023 deadline
The Indian government has been pushing for stricter safety standards in the automobile industry. Along with plans for a standardized crash test rating for all cars, SUVs sold in India. The government is also working on making six airbags mandatory for all cars, SUVs in India along with three point seatbelts. This rule is expected to be enforced from October 2023.

Hyundai has already began a teaser campaign for its next launch in India which will be the brand’s smallest SUV called the Exter. It will sit below the Venue and will rival the Tata Punch and the Citroen C3. Click here to read more.
