First set of images of the upcoming Creta EV confirm that it is based on the facelifted model.
Hyundai India is working on expanding the Creta range with the Creta EV, which has been spied testing on our roads before. However, this time, it seems to be bearing the Creta facelift’s design cues under the camouflage.
- Hyundai Creta EV to share overall styling with facelift
- Design changes will be EV-specific; to get new alloy wheels
- Creta EV to get 45kWh battery pack and 138hp motor
Hyundai Creta EV design
New spy shots of the Creta EV show that it gets the Creta facelift’s headlights and tail-lights, with the overall silhouette also bearing a striking resemblance to the ICE Creta facelift.
However, there are certain design elements that are unique to the Creta EV like the closed-off ‘grille’ that could feature a slightly off-centre, nose-mounted charging port similar to the Kona Electric. The spy shots also show that the Creta EV will sport new aerodynamically efficient alloy wheels; these seem to be 17-inch units, but 18 inchers could be on offer.
On the inside, the Creta EV is likely to be quite similar to the facelift, but with some interior bits borrowed from the Ioniq 5.
Hyundai Creta EV range, battery
As we’ve reported earlier, the Creta EV will be powered by a 45kWh battery pack that will be supplied by LG Chem. While this may put it at a disadvantage when compared to the MG ZS EV (50.3kWh) and the upcoming Maruti eVX (48-60kWh), the Creta EV’s battery will be larger than the Nexon EV long-range’s 40.5kWh unit. Expect the Creta EV’s real world range to be around 250km on a single charge.
Our sources had also mentioned that the Creta EV’s electric motor will be shared with the latest-gen, entry-level Kona EV available overseas: a single, front-axle-mounted motor producing about 138hp and 255Nm of torque is expected to propel Hyundai’s third EV for India.
