Hyundai Creta EV price, launch details, powertrain, battery

Creta EV prices will be announced by early 2025; will rival Maruti eVX and MG ZS EV.

Hyundai was one of the first carmakers to hit the ground running with EVs in India, but the Korean carmaker has so far only operated in premium segments with the Kona and Ioniq 5 EVs. Come 2025, Hyundai will finally be entering the mass-market EV segment in India with the Creta EV.

We recently reported to you with spy shots of the Creta EV previewing unique design elements over its ICE-counterpart, and now we have exclusive details about the SUV’s powertrain and battery pack. The Creta EV will be based on the Creta facelift that will debut on January 16, 2023

  1. Creta EV to use a 45kWh battery pack
  2. Battery pack to be supplied by LG Chem
  3. Electric motor to be shared with Kona EV

Hyundai Creta EV powertrain details

Our sources tell us that the Creta EV will employ a 45kWh battery pack that will be supplied by LG Chem, Hyundai’s global supplier of lithium-ion battery packs. The platform will be derived from the regular ICE-powered Creta, albeit with certain modifications.

This, however, means that the Creta EV will have a smaller battery than both its rivals – the MG ZS EV and Maruti’s upcoming eVX. The former uses a 50.3kWh battery, while the latter is likely to be offered with two battery packs upon launch – an entry-level 48kWh variant and a top-spec 60kWh variant. It will however be larger than the Nexon EV’s 40.5kWh battery for the long-range variant.

Our sources also said the electric motor will be shared with the latest-gen, entry-level Kona EV available overseas. That means it will be powered by a single motor on the front axle producing about 138hp of power and 255Nm of torque.

Hyundai Creta EV expected launch, rivals

The global debut of the Creta EV is expected to take place by the second half of 2024, and a price announcement can be expected in early 2025. As mentioned, it will be a direct rival to the MG ZS EV and Maruti eVX, with only the latter being a born EV.
