Honda Motor today announced its cumulative automobile sales in China had reached 15m.
This came 22-1/2 years after sales started in January 1999 and was, the automaker said, “the fastest of any region for Honda’s global automobile sales”.
Honda’s cumulative hybrid vehicle sales in China have reached the 500,000-unit mark, in four years and seven months since the start of sales in 2016.
Nameplates sold in China so far include global models such as Accord and CR-V, as well as China-exclusive models such as Crider developed to meet customer needs specific to the local market.
Hybrid sales started in 2016 with the introduction of the Accord with the Sport Hybrid i-MMD powertrain. The automaker now offers nine hybrid models in China.
The electrified model range was expanded last February when sales of the CR-V PHEV began, the brand’s first plug-in model for China.
