Discounts and benefits offered by carmakers at the end of a calendar year are nearly a match to those offered during the festive season. Dealerships look to push the current year’s stock to make space for new inventory, which means you could save a pretty penny on your new Hyundai, Maruti, Renault, Honda, Volkswagen, Tata or Toyota hatchback this month. Read on for the details.

  • Mahindra KUV100 NXT gets upwards of Rs 60,000 off
  • Up to Rs 50,000 off on the S-Presso, Celerio, Santro and Triber
  • Discounts available on the WR-V, Tiago, Polo and Glanza too

Mahindra KUV100 NXT                 Rs 5.67-7.28 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 62,055 off

The only hatchback currently offered by Mahindra, the KUV100 NXT, goes up against the likes of the Maruti Ignis and Ford Freestyle. The Mahindra KUV100 NXT‘s USP is that it can seat up to six people. Power comes from an 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine that is sent to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual as standard. Mahindra’s cross-hatch is available with benefits of over Rs 62,000 this month.

Hyundai Grand i10                         Rs 5.92-6.00 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 60,000 off

Demand for the Hyundai Grand i10 is still strong, despite the introduction of the new-gen Grand i10 Nios. The older-gen hatchback, which was one of the bestselling cars in November 2020, is available this month with benefits worth Rs 60,000. The petrol-only Grand i10 serves as an option for those who want to upgrade from the Santro but are on a budget.

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Rs 5.13-8.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 60,000 off

Hyundai’s answer to the Maruti Swift and the Ford Figo is feature-rich, good value and is the only model to come with a fun turbo-petrol and a diesel-automatic option. Dealerships have been authorised to offer benefits and discounts up to Rs 60,000 on the 1.2 petrol-manual, 1.2 petrol-AMT, 1.2 diesel-manual and 1.2 diesel-AMT versions of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios in December 2020.

Maruti Celerio                                 Rs 4.41-5.68 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 50,000 off

The Celerio is an efficient, peppy and spacious hatchback that is now available with a sizable Rs 50,000 worth of discounts and benefits. Along with an AMT gearbox option, the Maruti Celerio is also available with a factory fit CNG kit.

Maruti S-Presso                              Rs 3.71-5.14 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 50,000 off

Its styling may polarise opinion, but the Maruti S-Presso is a good urban runabout. It’s spacious for its size, easy to drive and quite frugal too. The same 1.0-litre engine from the Celerio is available with manual and AMT options, and a CNG kit. Maruti Arena dealerships are expected to offer up to Rs 50,000 in cash discounts, exchange bonuses and other benefits on the Renault Kwid rival.

Renault Triber                                  Rs 5.12-7.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 50,000 off

As a value proposition, the Renault Triber is an excellent choice. The versatility and practicality of the 7-seater are unmatched in its segment, though the 72hp, 1.0 petrol engine can feel strained with a full load. There is an AMT gearbox option available that adds convenience. The Triber is an even better proposition this month with benefits worth Rs 50,000 available now.

Hyundai Santro                               Rs 4.63-6.31 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 50,000 off

Hyundai’s smallest offering is available with a significant Rs 50,000 in benefits and discounts this month. Buyers of the Hyundai Santro will like the roomy and well-finished cabin, along with the overall refinement. However, top versions of this Maruti S-Presso rival are pricey for the class. The Santro comes with manual and AMT gearbox options and is also available in CNG-powered form.

Maruti Ignis                                      Rs 4.89-7.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 46,000 off

Sold via Maruti’s premium Nexa outlets, the Ignis doesn’t rack up the same numbers on the sales charts as the brand’s other hatchbacks. While this may be down to the upright styling or its price, nonetheless the Maruti Ignis comes with a peppy and efficient 1.2 petrol (with manual and AMT options) and has a smart, well-finished cabin area. Buyers could avail up to Rs 46,000 in benefits and discounts this month.

Maruti Swift                                     Rs 5.19-8.02 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 45,000 off

The bestselling car in November 2020, the Maruti Swift is a competent mid-size hatchback with a fun-to-drive aspect. The efficient and zingy 1.2-litre petrol engine – available with manual and AMT gearbox options – is another highlight. Avail up to Rs 45,000 off on all four trims this month.

Renault Kwid                                   Rs 2.99-5.13 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 45,000 off

The SUV-like styling, practicality and features list at this price point make the Renault Kwid quite desirable. The 0.8 and 1.0 petrol engines are both adequate and the latter gets an AMT option too. This month, there’s up to Rs 45,000 worth of benefits to be had on Renault’s budget hatchback, which makes it even more value for money.

Honda Jazz                                       Rs 7.50-9.73 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 40,000 off

Now a petrol-only model, the Honda Jazz is a spacious and practical premium hatchback, albeit an expensive one. The 1.2 petrol engine is sufficient for urban commutes and the CVT gearbox option helps add convenience to the package. Honda has officially announced benefits of up to Rs 40,000 this December on the Jazz.

Honda WR-V                                    Rs 8.50-11.00 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 40,000 off

The Jazz’s cross-hatch counterpart may miss out on a petrol-CVT option, though it is available with a strong diesel engine. The Honda WR-V shares many of its pros with the hatchback it’s based on, though the petrol engine feels meeker in this application. The well-equipped cross-hatch comes with benefits up to Rs 40,000 now.

Maruti Alto                                       Rs 2.95-4.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 35,000 off

Maruti’s most affordable model may have been knocked of the top of the sales charts last month, but the Alto still sells quite well. While it does feel basic and cramped compared to newer competition, its price and economy (especially in CNG form) are among the reasons the Maruti Alto is still in demand. Arena showrooms are offering up to Rs 35,000 in benefits this December on the Alto.

Maruti Wagon R                             Rs 4.46-6.00 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 33,000

The second-gen of Maruti’s tall-boy hatchback is available with total benefits and discounts worth Rs 33,000 this month. The Maruti Wagon R comes with two engine options – a frugal 1.0 petrol and a peppy 1.2 petrol – both of which get manual and AMT gearbox options. While the new Wagon R does improve on its predecessor, in terms of space and features, it still isn’t suited to drive on the highway.

Maruti Baleno                                 Rs 5.64-8.96 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 31,000 off

Maruti’s premium hatchback is one of the bestselling cars in India, and for good reason. Both, the 83hp 1.2 petrol and the 90hp 1.2 mild-hybrid petrol engines, offer good performance and are economical. The Maruti Baleno also sports a spacious and comfortable cabin, though the quality of materials on the inside could be better for the price you pay. Avail discounts and benefits of up to Rs 31,000 during this month.

Toyota Glanza                                 Rs 7.01-8.96 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Up to Rs 30,000 off

Total offers and benefits available on the Toyota Glanza this month are almost the same as its badge-engineered sibling, the Baleno. The same petrol and mild-hybrid petrol engines are on offer, along with a CVT automatic option for the 83hp petrol unit. A tweaked grille design, Toyota badges, a longer standard warranty and marginally lower prices (depending on the variant) are all that separate the Glanza and the Baleno.

Volkswagen Polo                            Rs 5.88-9.67 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

Up to Rs 28,500 off

Volkswagen is officially offering a direct cash discount on select variants of the Polo hatchback for December 2020. The base and mid-spec Volkswagen Polo Trendline and Comfortline, which are available with the sluggish 76hp 1.0 petrol engine and a 5-speed manual gearbox, get Rs 28,500 and Rs 23,000 off, respectively. The Polo Highline Plus variant – powered by the fun 110hp 1.0 TSI engine – in manual form gets a discount of Rs 19,500. The Polo turbo also comes with a 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission option, though these AT variants are not on discount this month.

Tata Tiago                                         Rs 4.70-6.74 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

Up to Rs 25,000 off

Tata has officially authorised its dealerships to offer up to Rs 15,000 in direct discounts and up to Rs 10,000 as an exchange bonus on its budget hatchback. The Tata Tiago, which rivals the likes of the Hyundai Santro and Maruti Wagon R, comes with an upmarket cabin and feels like a class above to drive. The grunt from the 85hp, 1.2 petrol engine is adequate, though it does get loud and isn’t the most efficient either. An AMT option is available with this unit.
