Gefco UK has expanded its footprint in Liverpool, England, with the opening of a new 176,000ft² logistics sequencing centre in Speke.
The facility comes as part of a EUR6.4m (US$7.4m) investment by Gefco and its client, Jaguar Land Rover.
The new site is due to create around 140 jobs for Merseyside.
The centre was officially opened during an inauguration ceremony, which took place on 30 September, followed by an event celebrating 40 years of Gefco operations in the UK, attended by senior management from across the Group.
“This is another major milestone in both the growth of our automotive sequencing capabilities and in our relationship with our valued partners at JLR,” said Gefco UK MD, Cedric Chacon.
“The project represents a significant investment by Gefco and its partners into what is a strategically important location for us and indeed for the UK automotive sector. We are excited to be able to grow our presence in Merseyside as well as support the local economy, strengthen manufacturing capabilities in the region and deliver major job opportunities for local communities.”
“Over 40 years, Gefco UK has developed a track record of impactful investment and innovation in automotive logistics. This latest project is testament to that and our approach to ensuring our client offering is as strong as it possibly can be.”
The facility will be responsible for receiving and processing 400 different commodities from JLR’s global supply chain. From the centre, parts will be decanted, repacked, quality checked and distributed to JLR’s manufacturing hubs.
Currently, Gefco already operates two sites in and around Merseyside. The new facility will be operated by Gefco as part of a lease running to 2028.
The new centre represents part of Gefco’s integrated logistics offering, which incorporates flows management, multimodal solutions, logistics engineering and fiscal and customs procedures management.
