Ferrari has begun road testing its first ever EV. The first sighting of Ferrari’s EV test mule was on the outskirts of Maranello wearing parts from other cars. The Ferrari EV, which will likely be priced over USD 500,000, will be built at an all-new facility.
Ferrari EV mule: what exactly is it?
While it is confirmed that this indeed is a Ferrari EV test mule, the final product will look completely different. The vehicle spotted looks like a large hatchback, but it is actually the bodyshell of a Maserati Levante SUV replete with fake quad exhausts at the back and a different looking rear bumper. Things get even more interesting up front with the botched up Ferrari Roma headlamps. The mule has much bigger wheels than the standard Levante and has a lowered suspension. The wider track has been covered by plastic extensions and the front grille has been closed off as well.
Ferrari EV: what else is known?
Ferrari will reveal its first EV next year, and according to a Reuters report, it is expected to cost over $5,00,000 (approximately Rs 4.17 crore), before options. Leaked patents suggest that it will be a two-seater that’ll feature an electric motor on each of the four wheels. Ferrari is also working on its second EV, which is under development.
The Ferrari EV will be built at the new factory in Maranello. It will be capable of building EVs, hybrids and ICE cars that will help boost annual production to an estimated 20,000 units.
