Daimler becomes Mercedes-Benz Group – Just Auto

Daimler AG today became Mercedes-Benz Group AG following the successful stock market debut of Daimler Truck so the group’s renewed focus on the automotive business is underlined with a new name.

The Mercedes-Benz brand was created in 1926 when the predecessor companies of Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler were merged.

Renaming also saw the automaker’s stock exchange symbol change from DAI to MBG and shares will remain listed on Germany’s DAX stock index.

Chairman Ola Kaellenius said in a statement: “The renaming… underlines our renewed strategic focus. In doing so, we want to make clear where we see the core of our company – building the most desirable cars in the world. The Mercedes star has always been a promise for the future: changing the present in order to improve it. We want to continue this legacy of our founders by taking the lead in electric mobility and vehicle software.”

Daimler Mobility AG has also been renamed Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG, offering buyers of M-B passenger cars and vans financing, leasing and insurance plus rental and subscription products, fleet management and digital services for charging and payment.

The automaker’s “historic realignment” began last year and was approved by shareholders with an overwhelming majority. On 10 December, 2021, Daimler Truck Holding was launched as an independent company on the Frankfurt stock exchange, leaving the new Mercedes-Benz Group to concentrate on ita passenger car brands and vans.

Mercedes-Benz Group still holds a minority stake of 35% in Daimler Truck and, of that, around 5% is held in its pension assets.
