The C3X crossover sedan could get the C3X Fastlounge name upon launch.
Hot on the heels of the global debut of the C3 Aircross earlier this year, Citroen India has already begun work on its next product. Following the C3 Aircross will be the high-riding C3X crossover sedan that we reported on a few months ago.
- Citroen C3X will come with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine
- Expected to also spawn an EV derivative
- Will be an affordable rival to the City and Verna
Citroen C3X: what do the spy shots reveal?
The test mule seen in the spy shots seems to be in the early stages of development, and while most of the body panels look intact, the front and rear still do not seem to be close to production ready. And though the shape of the vehicle is covered under heavy camouflage, several tell-tale points confirm this is Citroen’s next product.
As expected, the C3X test mule seems to share a few bits with the upcoming C3 Aircross SUV. Some body panels, including the front doors and the front fenders, are expected to be common, but the C3X will have a unique design from the rear door onwards, with a sloping roof and a raked rear windscreen to give it a fastback-like look.
The interior is expected to be common as well with the SUV, in the interest of economies of scale, however, there will be minor differences in the upholstery shades and some interior panels.
Citroen C3X: what else is known
The C3X will be Citroen’s third offering to be built on the company’s India-specific CMP modular platform, following the C3 hatchback and the upcoming C3 Aircross SUV. The powertrain will be the same as the other Citroen C3 models, a 1.2-litre, 110hp turbo-petrol engine mated to a manual and most likely an automatic gearbox as well. The carmaker will also develop an electric version, similar to the eC3 and also the upcoming eC3 Aircross that is in the pipeline.
This uniquely styled sedan could be called the Citroen C3X Fastlounge upon launch. It will be around the same length as the C3 Aircross and will be a slightly more affordable alternative to the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia, according to sources.
