Ferrari 488 Pista Races McLaren 600LT For Spider Supercar Supremacy

Before we dip into this drag race video, know that the end result might be met with some controversy. We don’t always spoil the final outcome in racing clips like this, but we will share that information later in the article if you aren’t interested in watching the clip. But you should watch it, because the conclusion leaves us scratching our heads and frankly, it’s why we’re compelled to spill the beans.

The bean-spilling comes soon enough, but for now, here’s what you need to know. This showdown is a contest of roofless spiders from England and Italy, specifically the Ferrari 488 Pista facing off against the McLaren 600LT. On paper, the cars make for a great matchup – each one boasts a small-displacement twin-turbocharged V8 engine positioned behind the driver, shifted via paddles through a sequential gearbox. In fact, the Ferrari’s 3.9-liter mill is just 0.1 liters larger than the 3.8-liter engine in the McLaren. The two-seaters also weigh nearly the same, with the 600LT being just 66 pounds (30 kilograms) lighter than the Pista.

The stats don’t entirely match up, however. The engine in the Ferrari is tuned to make 710 horsepower (522 kilowatts), whereas the 600LT checks in at 600 hp (441 kW). It doesn’t take a genius to see the McLaren is seriously outmatched, and published figures for 60-mph sprints as well as top speed reflects that. At 2.8 seconds to 60 mph, the 488 Pista is just 0.1 tenths quicker, but at the other end, the Ferrari’s 211-mph top speed is well above McLaren’s stated 204-mph limit for the 600LT.

Of course, those stats are achieved in ideal conditions, and as Lovecars points out, its racing videos represent real-world situations. As such, the supercars are staged on an unprepped surface, and neither driver uses launch control. It’s just driver skill utilizing all the power, and when the starting flag drops, the Ferrari steps out to a clear lead. Here’s where things go off the rail, because despite a massive power disadvantage, the 600LT comes from behind for the win. Wait, what?

If anything, we’d expect the Ferrari’s 110-hp advantage to come on strong once moving. Instead, we see the McLaren deliver a burst of speed at the other end of this quarter-mile contest to finish several car lengths ahead. Did the Ferrari driver let off the throttle too soon? It’s certainly strange to see the 600LT suddenly leap past the Pista, and more than a few commenters in the video suggest as much. Or, is the 600LT packing more power than McLaren advertises? It’s not the first time we’ve been surprised by the 600LT’s punchy performance.

Sadly, only one race was held for this video. We’d very much like to see a rematch, if for no other reason than to hear these screaming V8s singing a supercar duet one more time.

Volkswagen had planned to move production of the European-spec Passat from Emden, Germany to a new VW Group plant in Turkey for the midsize model’s next generation. The conflicts in Syria forced the automotive conglomerate to change its plans, ultimately deciding to shift production to Bratislava following a €1 billion investment in the plant.

The switch will happen in 2023 when production of the Passat’s sister model, the Skoda Superb, will be relocated from the Czech plant in Kvasiny. However, a new report from Automotive News Europe claims VW has decided to discontinue the Passat sedan in Europe, following a similar decision taken for the US-spec model built in Chattanooga. The Passat (NMS) is technologically inferior to the MQB-based European model, and much like its cousin from the Old Continent, it’s expected to bow out in 2023.

The silver lining? The Passat won’t be axed altogether in Europe as ANE reports the wagon (Variant) will live to see another generation. The thinking is VAG wants to reduce the risk of cannibalization as the Skoda Superb is known to eat into the Passat sedan’s sales due to its greater practicality thanks to a larger footprint and a hatchback layout. It also used to be cheaper, but the gap between the two has been reduced in recent years.

The report goes on to mention the next-generation Superb will target customers from countries in central and eastern Europe where sedans are still popular while the long-roof Passat will lure in buyers from western Europe. It goes without saying the Passat’s biggest enemy is not its Czech counterpart, but the proliferation of SUVs.

Company sources familiar with the VW Group’s agenda told ANE the company will shift even more focus to SUVs and its ever-growing EV lineup. Another victim will be the Passat’s sleeker derivative – the Arteon. Both the standard liftback and the Shooting Brake (it’s actually a wagon) won’t live to see another generation.

To end on a positive note, VW previously confirmed plans to start production of a new four-door Aero electric vehicle at the Emden factory from 2023. It’s widely believed to take the shape of a wagon, molded after the 2019 ID Space Vizzion concept.

Watch McLaren 600LT Devour The Autobahn At Speeds Up To 200 MPH

At just under four minutes, this autobahn-blasting video isn’t very long. Given a clear stretch of road, the McLaren 600LT doesn’t need long to reach speeds at which jumbo jets take off. Fortunately for us, the crew at AutoTopNL found a clear, unrestricted section of German autobahn and made quick use of it for this new top speed video.

But speed isn’t the only impressive aspect of this clip. The McLaren 600LT is technically part of the entry-level Sports Series, though it is the pinnacle of that particular lineup. Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 making only 600 horsepower (441 kilowatts) and yes, we say only here for a reason. We’re used to hearing about the exploits of the 600LT’s bigger, faster brother, the 720S. It dishes up 710 hp (522 kW) that many people think is underrated from the factory, and as such, it often overshadows the awesomeness that is the 600LT.

Hopefully, this video redresses that sin because the 600LT is epic. The soundtrack from the high-revving V8 tingles the spine as the driver goes through the gears, shifting close to 8000 RPM each time under full throttle. On the precursor to the max-speed run, the McLaren rips from 65 mph (105 km/h) to 186 mph (299 km/h) in just 19 seconds. For the final blast, the driver takes the 600LT from 114 mph (184 km/h) to 199 mph (320 km/h) in 23 seconds, and the speedo was still climbing slowly but steadily. Yes, it might be part of the entry-level McLaren family, but there’s nothing entry-level about its performance.

The 600LT ended its production run last year. Given more room to run, the supercar has a published top speed of 204 mph (328 km/h), though seeing how the numbers climb in this video, perhaps it has a bit more to give.

Volkswagen intends to expand its electric vehicle lineup by introducing two, smaller models to the range that would slot below the ID.3. The company would focus both products on appealing to European buyers who are looking for a city car to get around town with no emissions.

The smaller EV would replace the Up! in the VW range, an unnamed company source tells Automotive News Europe. The somewhat bigger vehicle might even oust the Polo, but there doesn’t seem to be a decision about this yet.

Like the ID.3 and many of VW’s other upcoming EVs, these tinier entries would ride on the automaker’s MEB platform. To follow the naming scheme of the rest, the company might call the tiniest one the ID.1, and the Polo-sized model would be the ID.2.

At this point, the development of the ID.2 seems to be in a more advanced state. VW intends it to go on sale as soon as 2023 at a starting price of about €20,000 ($23,900 at current exchange rates). To save money, it might use lithium-iron-phosphate cells for the battery, which is a less energy-dense solution than other types of lithium-ion tech, according to Automotive News Europe.

The ID.1 reportedly doesn’t arrive until around 2025. Skoda and Seat would get versions of the vehicle, too.

VW brand boss Ralf Brandstätter teased the plan for smaller EVs earlier this year. “Of course, we have to take into account that lower segments will in the future be demanding EVs, and we’re preparing concepts. We will discuss it soon. Cars in smaller segments are important and very interesting for us,” he said. Brandstätter also hinted that there would be concepts previewing these models before the production versions’ arrival.

Getting the full rundown of the all-electric BMW i7 hasn’t been easy. The German automaker isn’t interested in spilling the details before the car is ready, but few things can stay a secret in the internet age. UK’s Car magazine has a scoop that details many of the i7’s aspects we’ve only heard rumors about, like its range and output, and the latest bit of rumors from the publication paints a very exciting picture.

According to Car, BMW will slip a 100-kilowatt-hour battery into the i7 that’ll give the top-tier all-electric luxury sedan more than 300 miles of range. The publication also reported that the i7 would feature a pair of electric motors, powering all four wheels, that’ll deliver 536 horsepower (399 kilowatts). Previous rumors suggested that the model could produce as much as 650 hp (484 kW), more than the M760i’s 6.6-liter V12; however, that’s still possible if the company has high-performance plans for the model, which seems likely as it will compete against the Mercedes EQS.

The EQS, Mercedes’ i7 equivalent, could spawn a hotter AMG model with over 600 hp (477 kW), which would be better aligned with the rumored 650-hp i7, though it’s far too early to determine what either is planning in the high-performance department. BMW will also pair the i7 with a bevy of safety features and semi-self-driving technologies as BMW positions its EVs as technological powerhouses, which is similar to how Mercedes is selling its EVs.

While the BMW i7 will compete against the Mercedes EQS and other electric sedans, it will arrive late to the party by comparison. Mercedes is further along in developing the EQS, which is expected to arrive for the 2022 model year. The BMW i7 will be a bit further behind, likely debuting in 2022 as a 2023 model, giving Mercedes an early start. However, a lot can change between now and then.

Renault Megane eVision Morphs Into Production Model In New Rendering

In October this year, Renault released a new concept vehicle. The Megane eVision – as its name implies – previews the future of the hatchback in all-electric form. The production version of that prototype should be unveiled next year and we’ve decided now is the best opportunity to create an exclusive rendering of the new Megane.

Obviously, our designers used the concept as a base for their work but imagined a slightly more rugged vehicle with higher ground clearance. It looks bold and the proportions are nice – what more could we ask for?

Actually, there’s a lot more to be modified. The eVision is an all-electric concept but the new Megane will continue to be offered with combustion engines as well. This means the front end needs several tweaks in order to provide fresh air for the powertrain. The bumper, for example, needs a few air intakes to channel the flow but the upper section can remain closed for a cleaner look.

Renault is also planning a zero-emission Megane and if the concept is anything to go by, it will be a proper electric vehicle. The study has a single electric motor on the front axle with an output of 215 horsepower (160 kilowatts) and 221 pound-feet (300 Newton-meters). The 0 to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) acceleration takes less than eight seconds.

More importantly, you should be able to travel from London to Newcastle in a single charge of the 60-kWh battery pack. Translating this into numbers, the range will be about 280 miles (451 kilometers), covered “in the same amount of time as internal-combustion vehicles, stops included.”

The Toyota Innova Crysta facelift has been launched in India, with prices for the petrol versions starting at Rs 16.26 lakh while the diesel versions are priced from Rs 16.64 lakh.

The facelifted Innova Crysta features new exterior styling, such as a new, slightly lager grille with a thick chrome surround, chrome inserts on the headlights, new front bumper with larger turn indicator housings and round fog lamps. The equipment list has also seen a revision.

As mentioned before, the Innova Crysta facelift continues to offer both, a petrol and a diesel engine option. TVS ARIVE application launched – Autocar India

TVS has launched an augmented reality application called A.R.I.V.E. The company has said this application allows for an “in-depth product exploration and purchase experience using AR technology”.

  • The application features videos and animations

  • It also allows you to schedule a test ride

  • TVS A.R.I.V.E is available for both android and apple devices.

At present, the application features the company’s flagship models, the Apache RR310 and the Apache RTR 200 4V. However, the company has revealed that its entire range will soon make it to the application.

The app also features a mode where you can see mechanical components thanks to the bodywork becoming see through. There are also videos and animations in the AR application. Lastly, there’s a ‘Sell Through Process’ option where users can schedule a test ride, locate the nearest dealer, or book their vehicle online.

There’s also a mode, which uses the combination of real objects and AR, that allows users to scan a real bike by holding the device in front of it. Once detected, different features of the vehicle are said to get highlighted by the pulsating hotspots on it. By tapping on them, users will get the x-ray vision of the functionality, and detailed explanation through audio-visual and textual format.

The TVS A.R.I.V.E is available for both android and apple devices.
