Sytner Group’s CarShop used car supermarket division is set to open a new site near Halifax, taking its number of Yorkshire locations to four.

The expanding operation will officially add to its former Car People facilities in Wakefield, Sheffield and Doncaster in the county with the November 1 opening of the 14,520 sq.ft. site on Halifax Road, Shelf, which was previously occupied by a Sytner Volkswagen franchise.

CarShop’s latest expansion follows the May opening of CarShop Express Leicester and that of CarShop Express Leighton Buzzard two months ago.

It now lists 14 locations on its website.

Nigel Hurley, the chief executive of CarShop, said that CarShop Express Halifax combines the “best of our Express store concept with the best of our main store offering”.

“Like with our two other Express stores, customers can browse our thousands of makes and models online before getting a car moved to the store for a test drive or collection, completely for free.

“However now, they can also pop into CarShop Express Halifax to browse the store’s range of 70 cars on-site too – all of which have been hand-picked for the local area.”

CarShop said that fifteen new jobs have been created by the CarShop Express Halifax opening, including one head of business, one business operations manager, one customer service consultant, eight Express Specialists and two service technicians.

An accounts administrator and a vehicle technician roles are still being advertised on the CarShop Careers page.

Paul Harnett, head of business at CarShop Express Halifax Paul Harnett, the former head of business at CarShop Manchester who has worked for CarShop since 2016, will be taking on the role of head of business at the Express store.

“It’s exciting to be involved in opening and running of CarShop Express Halifax – the first store of its kind in the UK through combining both the Express experience with the main store offering,” Harnett said.

“I’m really looking forward to taking on a new challenge and using my experience to ensure the store is as successful as it can be.”

Hurley said the timing for CarShop’s growth in Yorkshire was “perfect”.

He said: “CarShop Wakefield has been the area’s go-to used car destination for over two decades and now, with the opening of CarShop Express Halifax, comes a new, fresh offering for a region that has served us so well.”

Hurely added that CarShop’s growth trajectory “won’t be stopping any time soon”.
