Brabus Mercedes-Benz EQS: power, performance, range details

Based on the EQS 450+, the Brabus EQS gets an additional 91km range compared to the standard model.

Mercedes-Benz tuning expert Brabus has revealed several aerodynamic enhancements for the already very aerodynamic EQS, improving its range by a claimed 7 percent. It is interesting to note that Brabus, which normally engages in improving the power output for cars, has now worked on improving the range of an EV.

Brabus EQS features lower ride height and new front spoiler

Front-end modifications include a new carbon-fibre spoiler to reduce drag and high-speed lift, resulting in better high-speed stability. There’s also a carbon-fibre trim on the front bumper’s intakes that redirect air towards the radiators and brakes.

A subtle wind deflector is located at the aperture of each rear-wheel arch to streamline the airflow through the rear diffuser and spoiler. The revised boot lip, according to Brabus, reduces drag by up to 40 percent.

Brabus is also offering an air suspension lowering kit which reduces the ride height by up to 15mm at front and 25mm at the rear. The standard EQS 450+ features a 332hp electric motor and a 107.8kWh battery that gives it a range of 746km.

In addition to the range-extending tweaks, Brabus has expanded its range of wheels with a 10-spoke Monoblock Z design. Brabus says that these wheels are tailor-made for the wheel wells of the EQS and replaces the 20-inch five-spokes on the standard AMG Line car.

While Brabus is most famous for tuning ICE-powered cars, the firm has been modifying EVs since 2008, when it revealed a cosmetically altered version of the Tesla Roadster. More recently, Brabus unveiled the Smart EQ Fortwo with sportier bodywork, heated seats and interior touches, including velour floor mats.

Mercedes-Benz EQS in India

While it remains to be seen if the Brabus EQS will make its way to India, Mercedes will bring the 649hp, AMG EQS 53 to the Indian market on August 24 via the CBU route. The EQS 53 packs a 400V, 107.8kWh lithium-ion battery that can give the electric sedan a range between 320-360km depending on the package selected. Mercedes will also launch the non-AMG EQS in “580” guise which will arrive in the festive season and will be assembled in India. The EQS 580 makes 523hp and Mercedes promises a claimed range of over 750km. We have driven the EQS 580 and you can read our review here or watch our video
