BMW is all set to launch the X5 facelift on July 14. This comes a few months after the model was unveiled globally in February 2023. Our dealer source has confirmed that bookings are open unofficially for a token amount of Rs 50,000. The India-bound X5 will be available in two variants, the X5 40i and the X5 30d.

  1. Features a new 14.9-inch touchscreen
  2. Both engines get mild electrification
  3. Illuminated Kidney grille available only on the X5 40i

BMW X5: interior and exterior updates

Not much has changed on the outside compared to the older generation with the new X5 receiving xLine design elements. An illuminated Kidney grille that is similar to the one in the i7 will be available only on the X5 40i model however both models will be riding on 21-inch alloy wheels.

On the inside, the biggest change is in the infotainment unit, which sees an increase in size from a 12.3-inch to a 14.9-inch touchscreen unit. What the infotainment unit also gets is the latest version of the iDrive system, version 8.0.

BMW X5: powertrains

The India-bound X5 will get one petrol and one diesel option, with both of them being in-line 6-cylinder engines. The 3.0-litre diesel power unit in the X5 30d makes 286hp and 650Nm while the petrol unit in the X5 40i makes 381hp and 520Nm.

The facelifted SUV gets a new eight-speed automatic gearbox and BMW’s xDrive four-wheel drive system as standard along with a mild hybrid system that consists of a 48V battery and an electric motor that is mounted to the gearbox. This provides the SUV with an additional boost of 12hp and 200 Nm, which BMW claims will help with fuel efficiency and performance.

India will not get the V8 that churns out 530hp and 750Nm of torque nor the Plug-in hybrid that produces a combined figure of 489hp and 700Nm.

BMW in India

The fourth-generation BMW X5 first debuted in 2019, which is the first facelift this SUV has received. In FY 2022, the BMW X5 sold over 1,000 units of the SUV while registering a 57 percent growth, however, this is still lesser than its rival, the Mercedes-Benz GLE which sold over 2,000 units.

On-road prices for the previous generation BMW crossed the Rs 1 crore mark and we can expect the trend to continue with the new facelifts that will launch in India.
