BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine facelift: exterior design
In terms of design, the refreshed 3 Series Gran Limousine gets redesigned headlights – which are now slimmer than before – and feature inverted L-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs) with the outer units acting as indicators. Furthermore, it gets re-sculpted kidney grilles, a redesigned bumper and larger air intakes.
In profile, the 3 Series Gran Limousine has a wheelbase that’s 110mm longer than the standard 3 Series, same as the pre-facelift model. However, the facelift has grown in overall length as it now measures 4,823mm, an increase of 4mm. At the rear, the changes are extremely minimal.
BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine facelift: interior and features
The biggest changes in the facelift are in the interior of the 3 Series Gran Limousine. What you notice first is the BMW Curved Display that houses the 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system – running the latest iDrive 8 operating system – and a 12.3 digital instrument cluster. Another big change on the inside is the newly designed drive selector lever in the centre console.
Furthermore, the facelift also gets the new BMW steering wheel, as seen on newer models from the stable, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also gets three-zone climate control, which can be adjusted using touch or voice control.
BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine facelift: powertrains
The facelift comes with the same powertrains as before – a 190hp, 400Nm 2.0-litre diesel engine and a 258hp, 400Nm 2.0-litre petrol engine, mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The petrol engine in the 330Li is capable of a 0-100kph run in a claimed 6.2sec, and achieve a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 15.39kpl. The diesel engine in the 320Ld can do 0-100kph in 7.6sec (claimed) and BMW says this variant is capable of returning 19.61kpl.
BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine facelift: rivals
The 3 Series Gran Limousine will compete with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which is priced between Rs 57.20 lakh-63 lakh (ex-showroom, India), and the Audi A4 that’s priced between Rs 43.85 lakh-51.85 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
The 3 Series accounts for 14 percent of BMW’s global sales and the current-gen sedan is due to be replaced by 2025. Once this happens, the German brand will bring in a similarly positioned electric sedan as the first model that will use BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture.
