VW America adds digital tech to 2022 models

New-for-2022 Taos small SUV shows off VW’s digital cockpit

Volkswagen of America, announcing 2022 model changes, said “most” models now have a standard digital cockpit and offer IQ.Drive assistance technology either as standard or optional equipment.

The driver assistance system includes hands-on semi-automated capability. On the highway, it offers lane centering and a capacitive feedback steering wheel while, for town driving, it can alert the driver about obstacles in front and around the car.

The technology uses front and rear radar, a front camera, and several ultrasound sensors to collect data from the surrounding area, enabling Travel Assist (semi-automated driving assistance); Front Assist (Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring); Active Blind Spot Monitor; Rear Traffic Alert; Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Stop and Go; Lane Assist (Lane Keeping System); and Emergency Assist (semi-automated vehicle assistance in a medical emergency).
