Volkswagen Tiguan, Tayron India launch details, interior spied, VW Tiguan L Pro

Tayron is the seven-seater sibling of the latest-gen Tiguan.

Earlier this year, we’d reported that a set of images of the Volkswagen Tayron were leaked from China. Now, new spy shots of the SUV, spotted in China again, gives us a first look at the interior of the upcoming seven-seater SUV. The Tayron is essentially a lengthened version of the latest-gen Tiguan, and it will first go on sale in China as the Tiguan L Pro, before coming to India in 2025.

  2. Spiritual successor to Tiguan AllSpace globally
  3. Will be locally assembled via CKD kits in the future

Volkswagen Tayron interior spied

The interior of the Tayron is largely similar to the Tiguan as it’s based on that SUV. The dashboard has a minimalistic look that’s dominated by screens; there’s as many as three screens: the main infotainment system, the digital instrument cluster and one on the passenger side of the dashboard. The infotainment display incorporates a backlit slider controller at the bottom, similar to the Tiguan. All three screens will likely be running VW’s latest MIB4 digital interface.

There are new-look AC vents at the sides, and the centre console has a very neat layout with a wireless charging pad, a rotary dial for the drive selector, audio controls and two cupholders. Interestingly, there’s also a large storage area below the centre console, much like we see in born EVs. And while there aren’t many physical controls, the steering wheel does feature some traditional buttons and switches.

The cabin also looks sufficiently upmarket with soft-touch materials, contrast stitching with blue piping and sports seats, like on this ‘R’ version pictured here. These images, however, do not show us the seven-seater layout or how spacious the cabin will be in the second and third rows. Still, the regular Tiguan is more spacious than its predecessor, so we expect the Tayron to also be roomier than the Tiguan AllSpace.

New Volkswagen Tayron platform, powertrain

The new Tayron is based on Volkswagen’s new MQB EVO platform. This is the same platform that also underpins the new Skoda Kodiaq among other VW Group models. The China-spec SUV gets a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol with multiple power outputs, while a 2.0-litre diesel is also expected in some markets. All powertrains will come with 48V mild-hybrid setup and 4WD or 2WD option, depending on the powertrain.

Exterior images of the Tayron were leaked through Chinese regulatory filings.

Additionally, Volkswagen will also offer the choice of two plug-in hybrids with an electric-only range of over 100km and DC fast charging capability. The PHEVs will get a 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled with an electric motor, a 19.7kWh battery pack and a 6-speed DSG gearbox. These variants will be 2WD only. The Tayron in India will most likely come with the 2.0-litre petrol engine; diesel and PHEV powertrain options are not expected.

Volkswagen Tayron India launch timeline

As we have reported previously, the Tayron is expected to come to India sometime in 2025. It will be locally assembled via CKD kits and will be positioned as a rival to the Jeep Meridian and Skoda Kodiaq.
