Volkswagen Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition: what’s new?

As is usually the case with limited-run models, the GT Edge Trail Edition features only cosmetic updates over the standard Taigun. There’s a ‘Trail’ badge on the tailgate, special decals on the rear fenders, doors and C-pillars, functional roof rails, blacked-out 17-inch alloys, and red-finished front brake calipers. Exterior paint options include Carbon Steel Grey, Relfex Silver and Candy White.

On the inside, the only real difference between this special edition and the standard model is the seat upholstery — black with contrasting red stitching — with the word “Trail” embossed. In terms of features, it’ll get everything that is available on the Taigun GT trim. This means it’ll sport kit such as a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless phone connectivity and charging, automatic headlamps, a rear camera and TPMS, among others. However, features such as ventilated and powered front seats, a sunroof, cruise control, a fully digital instrument cluster, full LED headlamps and six airbags, will be missing on this limited edition model. The Trail Edition does get the addition of a dashcam that can record external and internal visuals and cast them on the in-built 2-inch IPS LCD display.

Volkswagen will only offer the 150hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired to the 6-speed manual transmission, with the Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition.

Volkswagen Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition: price and rivals

At the Rs 16.3 lakh price point, the Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition costs the same as the mid-spec GT trim it is based on. However, it sits Rs 2.06 lakh below the likes of the more expensive GT Edge Limited Edition, which is based on the top-spec GT Plus variant. The Taigun continues to rival the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, and Honda Elevate.
