VW has taken the wraps off the new ID.4 GTX, a tuned-up performance version of its recently-launched electric SUV.
The GTX badge will be used to highlight performance-focused versions of VW’s electric models, in place of the GTI badge used on the Golf.
Using a twin motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain, the ID.4 GTX provides 299PS and can accelerate from 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds.
“Electric driving is simply great fun – and with the ID.4 GTX we are adding a new dimension of sportiness and dynamics,” said Ralf Brandstätter, CEO of the Volkswagen Brand. “The most emotional member of the ID family to date shows that electric mobility and top sporty performance are not mutually exclusive.”
When compared to a regular ID.4, the GTX model has a more aggressive appearance thanks to redesigned bumpers, gloss black trim and an exclusive fog light design.
The interior features a darker colour scheme and can be equipped with sports seats.
Buyers can also specify an optional Sport Pack, which includes lowered suspension and progressive steering.
A 77 kWh battery provides a range of 298 miles and the distribution of power between the motors is computer controlled. In normal driving only the rear axle is used, to improve efficiency.
The new model joins a recently-expanded ID.4 line-up, which includes two battery sizes and various specification levels.
Prices for the ID4 GTX are expected to start at around £50,000 when it arrives in UK dealerships later this year.
