Updated MG Hector launch on January 7, 2021

The MG Hector facelift is set to launch on January 7, 2021.  Updates to the Hector SUV include tweaks to the styling, larger alloy wheels, a new dual-tone interior finish and more equipment.

  • Facelifted Hector to get new 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Cosmetic updates include revised grille, new alloy wheel design and dual-tone upholstery
  • 1.5 turbo-petrol, 1.5 petrol hybrid and 2.0 diesel engine options to be carried forward

MG Hector facelift: What’s changed?

As has been ascertained by recent spy images, the updated Hector only gets minor cosmetic updates from the model currently on sale. Notable changes to the exterior include a tweaked grille and new design alloy wheels that are larger than earlier – 18-inchers as against the pre-facelift’s 17-inch units.

Inside, the outgoing model’s all-black theme has been replaced with a new dual-tone one that’s meant to improve cabin ambience. In terms of cabin design, little will be changed from the current model on sale, though expect the updated SUV to pack in some additional features.

MG Hector facelift: Engine and gearbox options

Expect the current set of engines from the Hector to be carried forward. The Hector is available with three engine options – a 143hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, a 143hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol hybrid and a 170hp 2.0-litre diesel engine.

A 6-speed manual gearbox will continue to be standard across the engine options and, as before, the standard turbo-petrol will get the option of a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic.

MG Hector facelift: competition check

Like its predecessor, the MG Hector facelift will directly rival the Tata Harrier in the upper end of the mid-size SUV segment. Other rivals in the segment include the popular second-gen Hyundai Creta, the Kia Seltos and the Nissan Kicks
