Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Hilux, Hilux EV, pickup truck, launch details, Isuzu D-Max rival

Hilux EV will go on sale first in Thailand in 2025, followed by other markets.

Toyota has started testing the upcoming fully-electric Hilux pickup truck ahead of its market launch next year. The tests will assess its performance in different conditions before mass production begins in Thailand by 2025-end.

  1. Toyota Hilux EV launch next year

  2. To rival upcoming Isuzu D-Max EV

  3. India launch unlikely

“Our intention is to be producing the Hilux BEV over here,” said Pras Ganesh, executive vice president of Toyota Motor Asia. Toyota has yet to reveal the Hilux EV’s technical specifications, including the battery capacity, range and power.

We expect the Toyota Hilux EV to offer a standard 4WD system with a dual-battery setup – one on each axle. Upon arrival, it will go neck and neck against the Isuzu D-Max EV that debuted at the 45th Bangkok International Motor Show. The Isuzu D-Max EV has a 66.9kWh battery pack and a combined power and torque output of 177hp and 325Nm, respectively. Expect the Toyota Hilux EV to pack similar capabilities as its rival.

The Hilux EV was revealed in December 2022 as the Hilux Revo BEV concept and was expected to be one year away from entering production. Toyota had said the electric pickup truck would primarily be aimed at the Thai market, but it would also consider exports.

The Toyota Hilux EV isn’t likely to be launched anytime soon in India, where the Japanese automaker offers the diesel-powered Hilux, priced in the Rs 30.40-Rs 37.90 lakh (ex-showroom) range.
