Tata Motors RDE E20 engines, new features, extended warranty

Along with updating the engines, Tata will also offer a 3-year/ 1 lakh km warranty as standard.

Tata Motors has announced that its entire line-up of engines now abides by the Bharat Stage 6 2.0 norms. With this, all engines – petrol, diesel and CNG – are now RDE (real driving emissions) and E20 (20 percent ethanol and petrol blend) compliant. This comes ahead of the new, stricter emission norms kicking in from April 1, 2023.

  2. Nexon diesel engine retuned for better performance
  3. Tiago, Tigor get TPMS function

Tata Motors BS6 2.0 engines: what’s new

Along with making its engines comply with RDE and E20 norms, Tata has also tuned these engines for better efficiency, refinement and driveability. These engines will now be cleaner as they are tested for emissions in more stringent real-world conditions apart from being tested in a laboratory environment on the MIDC (Modified Indian Test Cycle). Furthermore, to be E20 compliant, these engines will have a few modifications to the fuel systems, engine calibration and rubber hoses to handle the more corrosive nature of ethanol. E20 will start rolling out in a phased manner from April 2023 onwards.

Tata also said that to offer multiple powertrain choices to its customers, it will continue offering diesel engines in the Altroz and Nexon. The Revotorq diesel engine in the latter has also been revamped to deliver better performance. However, Tata didn’t mention if this retuned engine develops more power than before. Furthermore, it says the enhancements also improve the in-cabin experience by reducing the NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) levels.

New additions in Tata cars

The Altroz and Punch now also get idle start/ stop functionality that will enable them to improve their fuel efficiency. This will be available across all variants of Tata’s premium hatchback and sub-compact SUV. According to Tata, the low-end driveability of the two models has also been enhanced and they now have smoother delivery in lower gears.

Tata has also added the tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) in the Tiago hatchback and Tigor compact sedan.

However, the biggest update to the entire product portfolio in Tata is the standard warranty. Earlier, the carmaker offered a 2-year/ 75,000km warranty as standard with all of its cars and SUVs. Now, all of the models get a 3-year/ 1 lakh km warranty as standard.
